Highlight Features

1- Smooth evolution
2- Easy installation
3- Evolution to IP RAN
4- Smooth expansion
5- Low power consumption
6- Rich interfaces
7- Flexible dual mode networking
1- Smooth evolution
BS8800 software and hardware support full-feature
EDGE and UMTS/HSPA and satisfy operators’ future
needs for data service. In the future evolution to EDGE+
and HSPA+, only software upgrade is needed.
2- Easy installation
BS8800 main cabinet dimension: 950mm * 600mm * 450mm
(H*W*D), auxiliary cabinet dimension: 700mm * 600mm *
450mm (H*W*D). Front wiring design enables against wall
installation and conveniently maintenance.
3- Evolution to IP RAN
BS8800 is developed based on the ZTE unified MicroTCA platform.
Abis/Iub interfaces based on GE/FE or IPoverE1 are provided. IP RAN
can be conveniently achieved.
4- Smooth expansion
Each BS8800 dual-mode Radio Unit (RU60) has the capability
to support 6 GSM TRX or 4 UMTS carriers. If GSM and UMTS
are configured at the same time, each radio unit supports 4
GSM TRX plus 1 UMTS carrier, or 2 GSM TRX plus 2 UMTS
carriers as an example.
5- Low power consumption
BS8800 apply Doherty, DPD and MCPA technologies to power
amplifier module which improve PA efficiency.
With S666 GSM, BS8800 power consumption is 732W, and S222
UMTS configuration, BS8800 power consumption is 600W – less
than half of conventional macro base station.

6- Rich interfaces
BS8800 provides E1/T1, STM-1 and GE/FE interfaces for Abis/Iub
connection and supports various transmission networking such as
SDH network, IP networking or splitting transmission.
7- Flexible dual mode networking

BS8800 meets GSM/UMTS hybrid networking requirements in different scenarios.

BS8800 supports GSM900+GSM1800 hybrid networking and zero TCO from 2G to
3G smooth evolution. It can be configured only to support GSM in the initial stage;
UMTS 2100M can be supported by adding RU modules. In this way, GSM/UMTS co-
existence can be realized perfectly. Also GSM900+UMTS900 can be supported with
correspond software configuration.
•Network upgrade from GSM900 to GSM900+GSM1800
BS8800 supports 6 RU modules. By adding 3 RU-1800, GSM900+GSM1800 can be
supported and the capacity is GSM900 S666 plus GSM1800 S666 in one cabinet.
•Network upgrade from GSM900 to GSM900+UMTS2100
In network evolution, based on the existing GSM900 network, UMTS2100 network
can be constructed by adding 3 RU60-2100 modules and corresponding baseband
resource. This is the most economic 2G to 3G evolution step in which main control
module, transmission module and power are shared.
•Network upgrade from GSM900/1800 to GSM900/1800+UMTS900/1800
BS8800 can support SDR, designed to support UMTS, GSM or G/U with different
software configuration in the same frequency range. So in this network evolution, only
need add UMTS baseband process -board.
Functionality
BS8800 accomplishes the following basic functions with Um/Uu, Abis/Iub
and O&M interfaces.
•With Um/Uu interface, BS8800 accomplishes UE access and radio link
transmission including RF processing, channel coding and decoding,
channel multiplexing and de-multiplexing, measuring and reporting, power
control, transmit diversity, receiving diversity, calibration and
synchronization.
•With Abis/Iub interface, BS8800 connects with BSC/RNC and
accomplishes the following functions including cell management, reporting
BTS measurement information, broadcasting system Information,
implementing access control from BSC/RNC, mobility management, radio
resource management and controlling, FP processing and ATM
transmission management.
With operating and maintenance interface, BS8800 provides system
management functions including configuration management, alarm
management, status checking and system monitoring.
System Architecture

BS8800 main cabinet supports 36 GSM TRX. When stand carrier

frequency quantity surpasses 36 TRX, may superimpose the way
through the auxiliary cabinet to carry on the expansion. Each
auxiliary cabinet supports 36 GSM TRXs similarly. In addition,
may through the auxiliary cabinet superimposition way, realize
the multi-mode community station deployment way, saves the
area.

Radio Unit

Radio unit main process the conversion between baseband signals

and RF signals.

In the BS8800 radio unit has four kinds, respectively is: RU02,
RU02A, RSU40 and RU60. And RU02 and RU02A are the double
density carrier frequency modules, works in GSM mode. RSU40 is
the UMTS only radio frequency module, works in UMTS only below
the 2100MHz..RU60 is the multi-carrier radio frequency module,
can work in the GSM only, the UMTS only or the G/U double model
via software configuration
RU02 is GSM radio unit, can has 1 or 2 TRX via the software configuration. The
power amplifier output is 60W in GMSK, 40W in 8PSK. The RU02 mainly
divides into five parts from the system construction: power source, double
duplex filter, DTRU(dual-carrier transceiver unit), power amplifier and guard
plate. There are one TX/RX port and one RX port for connecting antenna.
RU02A and RU02 have the same internal structure and radio index. The
only difference lies in does not contain double duplex module and TX/RX
port. Therefore, RU02A is unable to configure alone, but uses to
coordinate RU02 to configure 4 TRX cell or capacity expansion from 2TRX
to 4TRX, and don’t need realize FWDR (four-way diversity receive),
reduces the net cost.
RSU40 is UMTS multi-carrier radio unit, only work below 2100MHZ.RSU40
support maximum 4 carriers, the output power is 60W. RSU40 module consists
of MCPA (multi-carrier power module) module, transceiver module, and duplex
filter LNA. There are one TX/RX port and one RX port for connecting antenna.
RU60 is multi-carrier RF module, RU60 can be configured as GSM only, UMTS
only or mixed mode module. RU60 can be configured to 1 to 6 TRX in GSM
mode. In case of GMSK modulation, 60W TOC output power can be provided, if
8PSK is used, the TOC output power is 40W. If RU60 is used as UMTS mode, it
can support 4 carriers with 60W TOC output power. In mixed mode, RU60 can
support 4 GSM TRX plus1 UMTS carriers, or 2 GSM TRX plus 2 UMTS carriers.
