REPRESENTATION AND THE
PHILIPPINES CANON
OPPRESSION
VOCABULARY:
1. Oppression – is a familiar word in the Filipino
vocabulary. It is when a person or group in a
position of power controls the less powerful in cruel
and unfair ways.
2. Dramatic Situation – it is the combination of
setting, characters, and action in a poem, in which
is supposed to engage the reader.
3. Persona – it refers to the speaker or teller of the
poem.
4. Allegory – it pertains to the symbolic representation
of truths or generalization about human existence.
5. Canon – it is the collection of works determined by
a society to have significant value and importance.
6. Personification – it refers to the figure of speech
where a non-human object is given human qualities.
Oppression and the struggle against it are
common themes in Philippine Literature.
