Iot Based Solar Monitoring and Tracking System

The internet of things has a vision in which the internet extends in the real world . The iot allows the objects to be sensed or controlled over existing objects. The proposed system monitors the online display of power usage of solar power and tracking is done to improve the efficiency.

Literature survey

 To overcome the problems related to management

of solar panels and field issues during power
generation process by using tracking system
 To develop instant online monitoring system
which provide the information for renewable
energy source based on IOT platform
 The monitoring platform is based on current and
voltage measurements of renewable energy
source
Introduction
 Renewable energy source is a practical solution to address
the persistent demand supply gap in the power industry.
 Due to the availability of solar energy across the country
unlike other renewable sources which have geographical
limitation, Solar Photovoltaic among all renewable sources
is proving to be most beneficial.
 Application of IOT is proving to be beneficial for
monitoring and tracking power generation from renewable
energy sources.
 India is having abundant solar radiation that attracts
massive solar photovoltaic power plant installation.
Back ground of IOT
 The internet of things is the network of
physical objects or things embedded
with electronics software, sensors and
network connectivity which enables
these objects to collect and exchange
data.
 Relates users and smart devices along
with sensors used in every day actions
eg:smart phones and wearable devices.
 IOT is expected to greatly transform the
energy sector by improving the
consumer side-generation side relation
ship
Objectives
Main objectives of this project are:
1. Design a system that tracks the solar UV light for
solar panels
2. Prove that tracking indeed increases the efficiency
considerably the range of increase in efficiency is
expected to be between 30 and 40%
3. To monitor and display daily generation of solar
power using current and voltage sensors
Existing method
 The solar panels are monitored using a controller and
current and voltage are sensed using current and
potential transformers.
 The solar tracking and monitoring implementation is not
done more precisely till now.
 Therefore the solar panel is not used to its maximum
potential at each instant of time.
Proposed system
 This system monitors the solar panel output parameters
like voltage, current, temperature and power generated.
 The daily power production of solar panel on its daily
basis is tracked using mobile application via Bluetooth.
 The solar panel is rotated and aligned to a position
where it receives maximum sunlight so that it can
operate at its maximum efficiency
Block diagram
ADVANTAGES
 Trackers generate more electricity than stationary
counterparts due to increased direct exposure to solar rays.
 This increase can be as much as 10 to 25% depending on the
geographic location of the tracking system
 Solar trackers generate more electricity in roughly the same
amount of space needed for fixed tilt systems, making them
ideal for optimizing land usage
