When master plan was introduced?

 Under the c-hed’s initiative a national workshop of formulation of vision document


and strategic plan for cochin city with a vision period of 20 years was organised in the
year 2003

plan ?

 The cochin muncipal corporation entrusted c-hed to coordinate and fecilitate the entire
process of preparation of the master plan for cochin city.
 The master plan of the city was prepared with a period of 20 years for the horizon year
2026. The scope of the Master Plan was restricted to the Corporation limits, spanning
an area of 94.88 sq. km.
 From the year 2005 January onwards up to December 2008 c-hed had been fully
involved in the process of the preparation of the master plan. After completing a major
portion of the work, the entire process and products were handed over to the Regional
Town Planning Department for further work.

 The Master Plan was a multidimensional exercise and comprises studies on various
aspects of the city viz. Regional Framework, Land Use Plan, Physical- Infrastructure,
Population Projections & Occupational Pattern, Shelter, Industry, Environment, Built
Heritage, Tourism, Urban Design, Transportation, Social Infrastructure and Resource
Mobilization for implementation of the projects identified.

 “To transform Kochi into an inclusive, vibrant city of opportunities with efficient urban
services, sustainable growth and ease of living”The objective of the SCM is “to
promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its
citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions”.
The focus is on “Sustainable and Inclusive Development”. Area Based Development
(ABD) strategies and PAN City solutions were the main components of SCM.The vision
is built on four themes identified from citizen consultation as:Theme 1: Connected and
Accessible CityTheme 2: A City with a Vibrant IdentityTheme 3: A Clean, Green, Safe
and Healthy CityTheme 4: An Inclusive and Smartly Governed City
