The Impact of Street Vendors in Bogota: BY Caren Natalia Rojas Flórez

Street vendors in Bogota have had a large impact on the city. They illegally sell goods in public spaces like sidewalks, which causes urban chaos, but they do so because they lack formal employment opportunities. The mayor of Bogota has created a program called IPES to help street vendors by providing social services, credits, and advice to improve their economic conditions and build their own businesses. While street vendors violate rules by invading public space, their right to work and survive must also be considered given high unemployment.

INTRODUCTION

The next work will be about a consultation about street vendors,

and what has been its impact that has had in the city of Bogota,
Colombia, taking into account that the problem that is lived with
these people is because they illegally invade the space but when it
comes to the truth they do no evil to anyone, they just try to earn
the silver honestly so that they can live because of the lack of
sufficient employment, and how the mayor of Bogota tries to help
these people.
WHAT IS A STREET VENDOR
All persecutions, plagues and curses lie on the street vendor: they
are pursued by the National Code of Police for invasion of public
space; are the number one enemies of the chambers of commerce,
since they consider them to be the illegal competence of their
traders; are persecuted by tradeassociations as their staunch rivals;
The police chase them and take away the goods, making them lost
many times, in short, the street vendor is cause for scarnium of
those who have a definite economic status
does nmean the above that we agree that the Police Code is
violated or that it is not equally true that the invasion of public
space by multiple ventorrillos on each sidewalk and on every
corner, somehow generates urban chaos. But in the face of
compliance with these rules there are also basic fundamental
rights, such as the right to survival, to procure even a mug and a
panelwater, not to mention the right to work and a dignified life ,
WHERE DID THIS TYPE OF INFORMAL TRADE
ORIGINATE IN COLOMBIA

In Colombia, informal sales arose due to violence,

unemployment, government mismanagement, inequality,
among other factors. In the country street vendors are
engaged in the sale of all kinds of goods, such as books,
movies, and services such as the resale of cell phone
minutes. with the above then we can infer that the problem
with street vendors is not just public space, this comes from
other factors as stated in the above, if these factors are
taken into account equally for all street vendors decrease or
be more legal.
PROBLEMS OF PUBLIC SPACE IN DOWNTOWN
BOGOTA

In the city of Bogotá the number of street vendors is a lot and the following
image shows how this public problem is generated on occasion, in the
transit of people in the center of Bogota
THE PROTEST
The problem that plagues the street vendors in the city of Bogotá every day
is more serious than we could imagine, because even if the government
wants to take the street vendors out of the center of Bogota which is
where more informal sales are given , they do not let themselves be taken
out, because they have been fighting with those in public space for years
that takes away their things because they are invading public space, but in
the absence of better solutions
