Western Visayas is an administrative
region in the Philippines, numerically
designated as Region VI. It consists of
six provinces and two highly urbanized
cities. The region is dominated by the
native speakers of four Visayan
Languages: Kinaray-a, Hiligaynon,
Aklanon, and Capiznon.

Jed was the first "Grand Champion
Performer of the World" from the
Philippines, winning the coveted
title in 2005. At that WCOPA
event, he won all the major
industry awards in addition to
capturing the top crown. He was
signed by Universal Records and
to date has had six double
platinum albums with most
becoming classics. He has become
a superstar Filipino recording artist
and songwriter, and is known as
"The Singer's Singer.“

Marifil Nina Barinos Girado-
Enriquez, born on November 1,
1980, known professionally as
Nina, is a Filipina singer,
occasional songwriter, record
producer, TV and radio
personality. She made her
recording debut in 2002 after
signing a recording contract with
Warner Music Philippines.

Alan Joveness Quilantang (born
December 13, 1958 in Isabela,
Negros Occidental), popularly
known by his stage name Allan
K., is a Filipino comedian, actor,
singer and TV host. He is one of
the co-hosts of the noontime
variety show Eat Bulaga.

Jesusa Purificacion Levy Sonora
(born July 28, 1941), better
known by her screen name Susan
Roces, is a Filipina actress and
widow of Ronald Allan Kelley Poe,
better known as Fernando Poe, Jr.
She was a main cast member of
John en Shirley, a comedy show
that aired on ABS-CBN until
October 2007. She is also known
for the main role of Flora "Lola
Kap" S. Borja-de Leon from FPJ's
Ang Probinsyano which began
airing in ABS-CBN from

More popularly known as “Kitty”,
is now in her 60’s, who hails from
Dumaguete City, Philippines. It
was difficult to break in the art
mainstream as local art activities
were rare if not well-defined. Her
hurdles were mostly the absence
of good system of
communications and hard to find
good materials were not as
accessible.

Kitty Taniguchi is a champion of


feminine aesthetic and is among
the few Filipina painters who had

Charlie Co is a visual artist based
in his hometown Bacolod City,
Negros Occidental, Philippines. He
is a co-founder of the Black
Artists in Asia, a group known for
its socio-political artworks in the
1980’s-1990’s.

Charlie has represented the


Philippines in International
Exhibitions such as the “Asian
Modernism” at the Japan
Foundation Asian Cultural Centre
in Tokyo Japan in 1995, and

who also represented the
Philippines in Utsonomiy Biennale

He is also a Black artist in Asia


and a famous Visual Artist.

Susan Canoy is a Dumaguete
artist who is known for her arts
and crafts. As a single mother,
her themes focuses on women
about their dreams, aspirations,
family, and frustrations. Her
innate love for nature and living
beside the boulevard, propels her
to create more subjects which are
not only a joy to have but they
convey a feeling of peace,
sadness and life’s challenges.

She has been exhibiting her

teacher in Bais City. A visual arts
specialist DepEd, and a Cultural
Worker in Mugna Sa Pantawan:
Arts & Music. Her works was
featured in Yuchengco Museum in
Makati.

Sollesta is a graduate of Silliman
University in Dumaguete City,
and an International Guest Artist
in residence at the clay studio in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in
November and December 2008.

His work at the US Studio,


“Women of Philadelphia Series”,
was based on his concept of
“women of strength, character,
and temperament”.

Graciano López Jaena (December
18, 1856 – January 20, 1896) was
Filipino journalist, orator,
revolutionary, and national hero
who is well known for his
newspaper, La Solidaridad.

Magdalena Gonzaga Jalandoni was a
Filipino feminist writer. She is now
remembered as one of the most prolific
Filipino writers in the Hiligaynon
language. Hailing from Western
Visayas, her works are said to have left
permanent and significant milestones
in Philippine literature.

Her famous poem "Ang Gitara" (The


Guitar) is read in classrooms all over
the country today. Her other famous
works include "Anabella", "Sa Kapaang
Sang Inaway" (In the Heat of War),
"Ang Dalaga sa Tindahan" (The Young

Alex C. Delos Santos born on
September 24, 1967, in San Jose,
Antique is a Karay-a writer and
theater artist based in San Jose,
Antique, the Philippines. He
completed his Master of Education
with an academic excellence
award from the University of the
Philippines in the Visayas. His
research and writing interests are
in culture and arts and gay
literature.

In 1999, Dr. Elsa Victoria Martinez-
Coscolluela, she was instilled as a
Hall of Famer in the Palanca
Awards. In 2004, Outstanding
Paulinian in the field of Literature
during the 100 Centennial
Celebration of St. Paul University
Dumaguete.

Flores-Villasis is an accomplished
playwright and fictionist who has
won a Philippines Free Press
magazine first prize for a short
story. He is also a Carlos Palanca
Awardee in Literature.

Fr. Rudy Villanueva is also known
as the writer Renato E. Madrid,
and is a priest and archdiocese of
Cebu, and is perhaps more famous
in the Visayas as a composer of
liturgical music and plays both on
English and Cebuano.
