Temperatures
Test Temperature represents current temperature set
point of the instrument, or the “cook” temperature
Computrac MAX 5000XL 34
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Test Histart Temp is used at the start of the test. The test
begins at histart and continues there until the rate of loss
falls to half of its peak value. It then settles to the Test
Temperature. This is used to decrease test times in
extremely high moisture samples.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 35
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Idle Temp is the temperature maintained by the instrument
between tests. This speeds testing, by decreasing the time
required to heat the sample chamber. It is also helpful for
back to back tests to ensure repeatability.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 36
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Temp Rate controls the temperature to a specified Rate
while ramping to the set point. Set to 0 to disable.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 37
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Chamber Stabilization works when a number other than zero
is entered, it prevents tests from being run until the idle
temperature is stable for the programmed period of time.
Helps improve the results of low moisture applications.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 38
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Ash Rate is a rate of moisture loss value that is used to
limit the rate of increase in oven temperature to prevent the
sample from igniting. Example: if an ash rate of 7% is used, the
temperature increase is controlled to maintain a 7% per minute loss during the
test. A value of 3% to 7% range is typically used.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 39
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Temperatures
Start Temperature Control prevents a test from
starting if the chamber temperature is more than two
degrees hotter or colder than the programmed idle
temperature. An alarm will sound and the test will end.

Ending Criteria
End On Prediction Uses AZI’s moisture prediction algorithm
to automatically end each test early to speed test results.
Allows for either a program of an Auto Criteria Selection, or a
Manual Criteria Selection which is setting the reliability of the
test end.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 42
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Ending Criteria
End On Rate ends the test when the weight loss rate falls
below a selected value.
Example: entering 0.100 means that the test will end when the rate of change of
the actual weight loss is less than 0.100% of the original weight per minute.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 43
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Ending Criteria
End On Time places a time limit on a test. The test
will end when a selected amount of time has passed.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 44
COMPUTRAC Theory of Operation
Ending Criteria
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS
End On Time or Rate used during tests when a change in
moisture may not occur. When the characteristics of a
sample are not known, linked tests with slightly higher
temperatures for each successive test may be used. This
will allow the testing to continue for the set amount of time
and then start the next test in sequence. If loss occurs, the
test will end on the rate criteria.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 45
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Ending Criteria
End On Reliability is similar to the Prediction method, but
is based on a percent of accuracy.
Example: If the reliability was set to 99%, the test would end when the actual
result was within 99% of the predicted result.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 46
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Ending Criteria
End On Temp Then… used when rate or predict criteria
alone would end the test after the release of free or bound
moisture but before the full ashing temperature is reached.
The instrument would check that the temperature criteria is
met, and then look for the additional criteria to end the test.

Tare Options
Two tare options define how stable the balance must
be before a test will start. A third Special Tare option
allows for the use of a syringe tare, foil tare, or other
lightweight media that may hold the sample.
Computrac MAX 5000XL 48
COMPUTRAC
MOISTURE/SOLIDS/ASH ANALYZERS Theory of Operation
Tare Options
Pan Tare allow checks that ensure the drift in the
measured weight of the empty pan is less than a given
number. This is significant to the start of the test, or the
taring of an empty sample pan.

Tare Options
Sample Tare allows for some degree of averaging in the
tare. This is used according to environmental conditions
vs. the moisture level. The longer the tare, the more
accurate the start weight can be.

may hold the sample.

will cause a FAIL indication to appear on the display and , if
selected in setup, printed reports.

Low Moisture CF is a % moisture addition value that gets
added to the actual moisture result.

Linked Test Options enables multiple adjoining
memory starts to be run together as one test. This
would be for Free/Bound/Ashing moisture studies.
