Teacher: Mr. Marvin Z. Sunga
Dr. Patrick Flores
Renowned art critic & Metropolitan
curator
“ The feeling (is) that all is possible in the
contemporary, conceived as a constantly
extending and deepening constellation of
art”
Contemporary art then permits possibilities
of exploring either subject or medium in art
to express the Filipino sense of self.
You may not believe it, but everyday. New
art forms are being created in our country
that are becoming part of the contemporary
art production of the Philippines.
At present, Filipinos are becoming more
and more aggressive as they use the arts
to express themselves and create
wonderful artworks that try capture the
Filipino way of life.
Look around you. In the most unsuspecting
corner of the street, in a mural along EDSA,
in a mall or high-rise condo, or in a poem
while riding the LRT or MRT, ART IS
PRESENT. You see colorful jeepneys, graffiti
walls and srtistic mural created by talented
and highly skilled Filipinos and you just
can’t help but be AMAZED!
ARCHITECTURE
Go around to the Philippines and you will see a
mixture of the old and new. In Manila, the 16th century
Binondo Church is just a few blocks away from the
very modern lucky Chinatown Mall. Each structure
tells a story of how the art of building was used to
shape the course of history and society. Like wise,
architectucture in the country continues to be vibrant,
with the improved of tourism, more first-class
architecture is expected to pour in(disaster ready
structure)
Globalization threatens
Philippine architecture by
bringing designs made by
foreign architects
