Theory and History
Management theories, used to build organizations, are grounded in reality
 Theories are an explanation to assist employees to effectively relate to the business goals and
implement effective means to achieve the same.
Management History” refers primarily to the history of management thought as it has
developed during that time, although some work covers the practice of management all the way
back to Antiquity.
Basic management techniques have been traced to the city of Ur (Iraq) in 3000 BC where
Sumerian priests were the first to keep written records as a means of recording business
transactions

Robert Owen- He was a businessman and social activist who sought to bring in new
utopian ideals for business and local communities.

Charles Babbage- Charles Babbage (1792–1871) is known as the patron saint of
operations research and management science. Babbage's scientific inventions
included a mechanical calculator, a versatile computer.
