What Is TPF?: Loss of Complete AC Power To Our Auxiliaries Is Known As TOTAL Power Failure

A Total Power Failure (TPF), also known as a blackout, occurs when there is a complete loss of auxiliary AC power. A TPF can be caused by a grid failure resulting in no power across the entire grid, all grid feeders tripping due to electrical faults, or islanding from the combined power plant end which then leads to a TPF. When a TPF occurs, it takes more time to bring a unit back up to full load and there is an increased chance of equipment breakdowns like diaphragm failures in the low pressure turbine, issues with DC drives, and barring gear failures. To protect critical equipment during a TPF, the turbine bearings, low pressure turbine diaphrag

WHAT IS TPF?

Loss of complete AC power to our

auxiliaries is known as TOTAL
POWER FAILURE.
TPF/ Blackout.

CAUSES OF TPF:

Grid failure (No power in the entire grid) leading

to TPF.
Tripping all grid feeders (electrical faults)
leading to TPF.
Islanding from CPP end ,subsequently leading
to TPF
POWER NETWORK:
OUR RESPONSIBILITIES
The actions which we are taking are to :-

 Protect our equipment.

 To prevent unwanted outages.

AFTER EFFECTS OF TPF

It takes more time to bring a unit, back to

full load after TPF.

Chances of Diaphragm failure of LPT

(more down time).

Chances of major equipment breakdown,

due to malfunction of DC drives.

Barring gear failure

(TG shaft getting stand still)
The things which need to be protected are:-

TG set bearings

LP turbine diaphragm

Condenser tubes

Flame scanners

Air pre heaters

General activities
Every A shift:-
 Start EOP
 Check air motor of APH.
Weekly:-
 Seal oil pump
 And check weather hand gloves,
F-handle, Torch lights are available.
 Every three months conduct mock drills.
