This document discusses several theories of learning and behavior: Gestalt theory focuses on the complete form or shape of an entity's mind and brain; Lewin's field theory looks at factors influencing a situation, including driving and hindering forces; Skinner's operant conditioning theory proposes that learning occurs through consequences following responses; and Pavlov's conditioning theory focuses on stimulus occurring before a behavior and its effect on future behaviors. The document also discusses constructivism in teaching, which assumes that students learn by personally constructing meanings from experiences and by working with others.

A teacher should consider the forces that affect the behavior of

the student both from the external environment and what the
student is thinking and feeling from within. This helps her
understand the learner and provide more effective ways to help
the child learn. On which theory is this thinking based?
a. Gestalt theory
b. Lewin’s field theory
c. Skinner’s operant conditioning theory
d. Pavlov’s conditioning theory
Gestalt Theory
 “Essence or shape of an entity's complete form”; a theory of mind and
brain.
 The principle maintains that the human eye sees objects in their entirety
before perceiving their individual parts.
Lewin’s Field Theory
 looking at the factors (forces) that influence a situation, originally
social situations. It looks at forces that are either driving movement
toward a goal (helping forces) or blocking movement toward a goal
(hindering forces).
Skinner’s Operant Conditioning Theory
 people learn through the effects of their deliberate responses.
 the effects of consequences following an action may serve as either
reinforcement or punishment.
 consequence is defined as a reinforce if it strengthens or maintains a
response that brought it about, but as a punishment if it decreases or
suppresses the response that brought it about.
Pavlov’s Conditioning Theory
 focus was on stimulus occurring before a behavior and the effect of
such stimulus on future behaviors.
36. The information processing psychology asserts that:
a. The learner is totally conditioned by the environment
b. The learner is a passive receiver of stimuli.
c. Learning is an interactive process between the learner and
environment
d. Learning is purely a conditioning process
 A cognitive approach in which people manipulate information, monitor
it, and strategize about it. Central to this approach are the cognitive
process of memory and thinking.

 Memory- The retention of information over time, which

involves encoding, storage, and retrieval.
 Thinking- the action of using one’s mind to produce thoughts.
60. Principal E wants her teachers to apply constructivism in teaching. On
which assumption(s) is(are) the principal’s action anchored?
I. Students learn by personally constructing meaning of what is taught.
II. Students construct and reconstruct meanings based on experiences.

III. Students derive meaning from the meaning that the teacher gives.

a. II only

b. I, II, and III

c. I and II

d. I only
Constructivism in Teaching
 By participating in a broad range of activities with others, learners
acquire new strategies and knowledge of their world, outcomes
produced by working together.
 Constructivist theory sees learners as constantly checking new
information against old rules and then revising rules when they no
longer work.
