Effective Communication Skills
2. Information, Media, and Technology Skills
3. Learning and Innovation Skills (for Higher Education and Middle Level Skills Development)
4. Life and Career Skills (for Entrepreneurship and Employment)
Overall, the K to 12 program is a necessity given the need to:
• Enhance the curriculum to improve mastery of basic competencies,
• Ensure seamlessness of primary, secondary, and post-secondary education,
• Improve teaching and learning outcomes through the use of enhanced pedagogies – such as spiral progression in Science
and Math – and the rationalization of the medium of instruction in our schools, especially for Kindergarten and the early
primary levels, and
• Expand job opportunities for both graduates and school leavers alike by reducing the mismatch between acquired skills and
available jobs, and provide a stronger foundation for post-secondary education and the world of work.
We want to produce holistically developed graduates with 21st century skills. We want to nurture lifelong learners who are
better prepared for the rigours of post-secondary education and the world of work.
Learning doesn’t stop at school
Kids are constantly connected
How can we tap into that amazingly motivating and engaging resource
Think pair share
When it all goes wrong in the middle of a class, when the technologies fail, the show must go on.

Our World is experiencing change at an exponential rate. In order to ensure that our students can thrive and be successful in a
future that can’t be predicted, education needs to keep pace with these changes. If we imagine the ideal learning
environment—it might be a place where:
1. Teachers and students are all learners
2. The focus is more on questions, less on answers
3. Understanding is more important than knowing
4. Innovation and exploration are part of learning
5. We connect and learn with the world
WRAP UP
21st century teaching and learning must be based on the following broad skills:
1. Collaborative inquiry to solve real and relevant problems
2. Creativity and innovation
3. Critical thinking and problem-solving
4. Communication

Technology, then, is what supports and enables this kind of learning and engages students by:
1.Providing learning—anywhere, anytime
2.Supporting teacher innovation and capacity building
3.Enhancing equity of access through the use of personal devices and internet resources
4.Using social media to support inquiry and communication while building social responsibility and digital literacy
5.Strengthening connections with parents
