Oil Grease Trap Maintenance Guide

The document discusses an oil grease trap (OGT) which is used to trap oil, grease, and other solids from sewage water before it enters a sewage treatment plant. An OGT consists of a bar screen chamber, food waste separator, grease trap, and grease tank. It works by separating solid waste in the bar screen chamber, allowing food waste to settle in the separator, trapping oil and grease in the trap, and collecting separated grease in the tank using a vacuum pump. Operators must regularly check and clean the bar screen, drain grease from the tank daily, and empty the food waste separator bin daily.

OIL GREASE TRAP

OPERATION &
MAINTENANCE
WHAT IS OGT ?

OGT (Oil Grease Trap) is an inceptor which is used to trap the

oil/grease/fat and other solid present in the sewage water.

WHAT IS THE NEED FOR OGT?

The oil gets mixed with water mainly from kitchens. The sewage water of kitchen when
entered to Sewage treatment plants causes variations in the treatment process as follows,

Reduces the MLSS.

Oil engulfs the process tanks resulting in reduction of atmospheric air to the process tanks.

Oil/grease concentration will be present in treated water.

Clarity of treated water will be reduced.

PARTS OF OGT

Bar screen chamber

Food waste separator

Grease trap

Grease tank
BAR SCREEN CHAMBER

Sewage water from

cafeteria lines to Bar
screen

Sewage water from cafeteria lines come to bar screen of OGT where the
solid waste like plastic, paper and other insoluble floating particles gets
separated and collected in bin. The liquid and the settled solid particles
gets transferred to Food Waste Separator.
FOOD WASTE SEPARATOR

The solid particles and food waste which is present

in the sewage water gets settled in the food Waste
separator and gets separated from sewage water.
The water will flow and pass to Oil/grease tank.
OIL AND GREASE TRAP

The oil/grease present in the sewage water gets separated in the

oil and grease trap. The separated oil is collected in the grease
tank by means of vaccum pump. The oil separated water will be
transferred to STP by means of sludge pump.
GREASE TANK

The oil/grease which is separated in OGT gets

collected in Grease tank by means of vaccum pump.
The oil/grease collected in grease tank should be
drained out daily.
OPERATIONS TO BE PERFORMED
BY OPERATORS
OGT will be operating in AUTO mode, however following
operations should be performed by operators.

Every shift physically check the bar screen and clear the
particles if any if entangled to the rotating shaft.

Drain the oil from the grease tank daily

Empty the bin of the food waste separator daily in the 1st shift.

Cleaning of bar screen once in a week.
