Product-Oriented Performance-Based Assessment

This document discusses product-oriented performance-based assessment, where the focus is on evaluating the final product or outcome of a performance, rather than the process. It provides examples of product-oriented assessments in different subjects, such as research projects, models, and portfolios. The document also describes three levels of competencies for products - novice, skilled, and expert level - and explains that product-oriented assessment is summative and evaluates whether a student's final work meets specific requirements outlined in a rubric.

Discussion
• Performance assessments are ass
essments in which students demon
strate their knowledge and skills in
a non-traditional way.
Product-Oriented Perform
ance Based Assessment
• Product oriented assessment is a kin
d of assessment where in the assess
or views an scores the final product
made and not on the actual performa
nce of making that product.
• It is concern on the product alone an
d not on the process. It is more conc
ern to the outcome or the performanc
e of the learner, only focus to the ach
ievement of the learner.
• Product assessment focuses on
evaluating the result or outcome
of a performance.

• Product is completed works or ta

ngible works, such as term paper
s, reports, projects, and drawings
in which students use their knowl
edge.
Learning Competenci
es
• The learning competencies associat
ed with products or outputs are linke
d with an assessment with three lev
els of performance manifested by th
e product, namely:
• Novice or beginner’s level
• Skilled level
• Expert level
There are other ways to state product-
oriented learning competencies. For in
stance, we can define learning compet
encies for products or outputs in a foll
owing way;
• LEVEL 1 : Does the finish product il
lustrates the minimum expected par
ts or functions? (Beginner)
• LEVEL 2 : Does the finished produc
t contains additional parts and functi
ons on top of minimum requirement
s which tend to enhance the final pr
oduct? (Skilled Level)
• LEVEL 3 : Does the finished produc
t contains the basic minimum parts a
nd function, have the additional feat
ures on the top of the minimum, and
aesthetically pleasing? (Expert Leve
l)
Product-Oriented Evaluation
• to assess performance through a finalized prod
uct that should meet specific requirements.
• is often accompanied by a rubric that the stude
nt evaluates himself to see if the expectations
of the final product are being met.
• It is a summative, and not a formative type of
evaluation that could work as a short-term solut
ion, for specific projects.
