According to the National Pharmacist Workforce Survey, in 2014, 60 %
of pharmacists provided medication therapy management and 53
percent performed immunizations. Ten years earlier, only 13 percent of
pharmacists provided medication management and just 15 percent
administered vaccinations.
This shows that pharmacists develop into an integral part of the health
care team. This allows them to perform more patient care activities,
including counseling, medication management, and preventive care
screenings.

According to Samaniego, T. (2011), in her article “ Pharmacists crucial in
effective healthcare”, pharmacists in the Philippines are viewed as the
one selling medicine or hiding behind the drugstore counters.
Leonila Ocampo , the president of the Philippine Pharmacists Association
has the following in mind:
 There is more to a pharmacist than just being a seller of medicines.
 Clinical pharmacy is a specialty practice
 Pharmacists are medical experts because they study the details and
components of a drug or medicine
 Pharmacists are the medication managers and counselors, who help
patients achieve the optimum benefits of medication.
