Bernard Beckett

Bernard Beckett (born 13 October 1967) is
a New Zealand writer of fiction for young
adults. His work includes novels and plays.
Beckett has taught Drama, Mathematics and
English at a number of high schools in
the Wellington Region, and is currently
teaching students at Hutt Valley High
School in Lower Hutt.
Biography
Born in 1967, lives in Wellington. He received an economic education at the
university. He has taught mathematics and English at several schools in Wellington
County and taught drama. He currently works as a teacher at Hutt Valley High School
in Lower Hutt, Wellington County. He is married to Claire Knighton, who is the co-
author of one of his novels. Most of Beckett's books are written for children and
adolescents.
In 2006, Beckett conducted research on DNA mutations under the program of the
Royal Scientific Society. The result of this work was a science fiction novel "Genesis-
2075".
Lester (novel, 1999).
The story of the return of Letser's tramp to his
homeland - in a New Zealand town. The book
realistically showed the life of the city and told about
typical teenage problems. She received positive
reviews in the New Zealand press
Red Cliff (novel, 2000).
The main character is a teenager Samuel, who tries to "pump
up his muscles" to impress the most beautiful girl in school,
but suddenly everything did not go exactly as he had
planned.
"Jolt" (psychological
thriller, 2002)
Writing which was a finalist in the New
Zealand Post Childrens Book Award-2002
in the category of "books for senior school
age" (Senior Fiction).
"No Alarms" (novel, 2002)
Іs the story of a "difficult teenager" Sharon, who
lives with her mother and brother. At school she
is in constant trouble, she hates home life, and
blames the "system" for all her failures. Most
New Zealand reviewers liked this book, which
tells the story of a "classic teenager in a classic
situation."
"Malcolm and Juliet" (humorous novel, 2004)
Which tells the story of a reasonable sixteen-year-old Malcolm,
who decided to engage in scientific research on sex. The novel
was awarded the New Zealand Post Book Award for Children
and Young Adults-2005 and The Esther Glen Award-2005
(LIANZA Childrens Book Award)
Deep Fried (novel,
2005).
The novel was written with his wife Claire Knighton.
This novel is a "social satire with elements of a
thriller." The book was nominated for the New
Zealand Post Book Award for Children and Young
Adults-2006.
Writings:
"Genesis - 75" ("Genesis-2075") (science fiction novel, 2006)which received the
New Zealand Post Book Award for Children and Young Adults-2007 in the
category of books for teenagers. The book was then published in Australia and
the United Kingdom. To date, the rights to publish the novel have been sold in
more than two dozen countries.
"Falling for Science: Asking the Big Questions" (novel, 2007). The book is
devoted to the study of the links between literature and science.
"Acid Song" (novel, 2008). A novel "on the connection between ethics and
science."
