IF PARENTS ASK HOW STUDENTS ARE DOING, MAKE IT AN OPPORTUNITY TO INFORM PARENTS OF HOW A

DUAL CREDIT COURSE ARE

COLLEGE COURSE AND IT WORKS DIFFERENTLY. A COLLEGE STUDENT SHOULD KNOW HOW

HE/SHE IS DOING IN THE COURSE BY CHECKING THEIR BLACKBOARD GRADE BOOK. IF THAT

INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE , THE STUDENT CAN ASK THE INSTRUCTOR OF RECORD TO

FILL OUT A STUDENT ACADEMIC PROGRESS REPORT FORM WHICH THEN HE/SHE CAN SHARE

WITH THEIR PARENTS. THIS FORM CAN BE FOUND ON THE DUAL CREDIT WEB PAGE UNDER “FORMS”.

FINANCIAL AID
Federal regulations mandate minimum standards of “Satisfactory Academic Progress

(SAP)” for students receiving financial assistance. This requirement applies to a

student’s entire academic

history, whether financial aid was received or not, including dual credit courses taken at

El Paso Community College. The standards for determining progress at El Paso

Community College are comprised of:

1. Calculated Cumulative Grade Point

Average (GPA): Students are required to maintain a 2.0 (equivalent to “C” grade)

calculated GPA

2. Completion Rate:

Students are required to successfully complete two thirds (2/3) of hours attempted in

order to remain eligible.

•The following are not considered credit hours successfully completed: F, W, I, NC, I*,
WITHDRAWAL FROM A COURSE
▪Dual Credit Students must contact the designated high school Dual Credit contact before withdrawing from a college class. This action
will ensure high school graduation requirements can still bemet.

▪Students may drop a college course and return to a regular high school course at any time before the EPCC final drop date. It is the

responsibility of the student to verify with the EPCC academic counselor that he/she has been officially withdrawn/dropped from a course.

Students can find the final drop date on the syllabus, EPCC website, and/or through the designated high school contact.

▪If the high school drops a student from a course BEFORE the census date the course will not appear on the college transcript. If a student drops a course AFTER the
census date, on or before the “last day to withdraw”, the course is recorded on the transcript with an assigned grade of “W”.
