Batter Board Batter Board

Batter boards are wooden frameworks installed around the perimeter of a building site used to hold layout strings for foundations. They are placed about four feet from the edge and checked for levelness using a water hose. There are two types: those surrounding a full foundation and single or double boards at corners. To install them, corners are pegged and support stakes placed diagonally outward before attaching the boards and strings.

Batter Board

Batter Board
Batter boards are wooden frameworks used as reference points to suspend
layout strings for a foundation. These batter boards hold the layout lines that
will indicate the limits of the construction. These are installed about four feet
away from the perimeter of the building lines. Water hose level is used to check
if the batter boards are of the same height. It also ensures that the building is
level or square.
The two kinds of batter
boards are the following:
1. Batter boards for foundation posts
are done by joining each piece
continuously to surround the site
foundation.

2. Batter boards for foundation walls are

single or double batter boards that are
placed at the corner.
1. PEG THE CORNERS
2. PLACE SUPPORT STAKES
• a. Measure out four feet diagonally from the first
corner stake; then, hammer it into the ground.
• b. Measure eight feet from the left and the right,
placing the other two stakes. Repeat this procedure for
the remaining three corners.
3. PLACE THE BATTER BOARDS
4. PLACE THE STRINGS
5. CHECK THE EXACTNESS OF
MEASUREMENTS
READING BLUEPRINT
Construction drawing also called blueprint
• 1. Read the title block
• 2. Read the Revision Block
• 3. Read the note and legend
• 4. Determine the view
• 5. Establish the Scale in your
mind.
• 6. Inspect the grid system
• 7. locate doors and windows.
• 8. Identify and Appliances
A construction drawing
contains the following parts.
• 1. Site plan- shows the place of building site.
It includes the following specifications.
o Actual size of the site
o Direction of the compass
o Site boundaries and distances
o Casement size and position
o Lot number
o Drawing scale
A construction drawing
contains the following parts.
• 2. Floor Plan- Shows the layout of rooms in one
story of a building. Which is viewed from above.
Illustrate the following:
o Arrangement and names of the room
o Doors and windows position
o Eaves lines
o Built-in furniture
o Length and width dimensions
o Roof structure
o Sizes of the room
o Wall locations
A construction drawing contains the
following parts.
• 3. Elevation indicates the scaled drawing of the
front and side view of a building. It also shows the
dimensions that cannot be seen on the floor plan like
height specifications and details.
• 4. Detail is a separate drawing. It shows important
shapes, positions for assembly, and other
dimensions of a building.
A construction drawing contains the
following parts.
• 5. Specification is a written document that is
prepared by an architect to serve as a set of
guidelines in relation to construction drawing.
It describes how a certain building is
constructed using the specified materials. It
also indicates the desired quality and expected
work standards.
