COURSE OBJECTIVES
 To demonstrate an understanding of the effects that
individuals and groups have on organizations, and apply
that understanding to the solving organizational
problems.
 To demonstrate an understanding of the theories and
concepts of individual, group and organizational behavior
as they apply to organizational decision-making.
 To apply concepts and theories about individual style and
perception to solving organizational problems.
 To apply theories of motivation to the management of
organizations.

 To apply an understanding of how important human resources are
to enhancing organizational performance.
 To analyze organizational HR practices and determine the effects

communicate understanding and application of theories, topics and

Class Organization

 Put yourselves in 7- member teams.


 Elect team leaders.
 Provide team leaders’ email addresses and
phone numbers for communication.
 Provide your class email address (if

• Group chapter presentation      10%
• Chapter summary 5%
• Team Research Project 15%
Data collection: 5%
Research presentation: 3%
Research report: 7%
• Mid-term test 30%

Group Presentation
 Each group is assigned to summarize all chapters
in the course outline and present the content of the
chosen chapters. Word file of chapter summary
(maximum 2 pages) and PowerPoint slides of the
group presentation are sent to lecturer’s email one
day (24 hours at least) before the class for feedback.
 All members of the group have to participate in the
chapter summary and presentation.

Note: Students are advised to read all chapters of the


assigned material and be well prepared before each class.
Team Research Project
 A investigation of factors affect employee
behaviors; satisfaction, organizational
commitment, job commitment, loyalty, jot
engagement, etc. at the workplace in the fields of
Marketing and Business/Sales.
 Data can be collected through questionnaire
survey (questionnaire design is fully supported)
 The results of the research should be presented in
a research report and PowerPoint presentation
slides.

Guide to Format of Research Report

 Research Report should be well prepared using


Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and submitted
electronically.
 The paper size should be A4 and the margins
should be top and bottom, right and left at 2.54
centimeters (1.00 inches), single lines.

Chapter summary: Group 1 – Chapter 1 – Class code

Note: Group leaders will be in charge of submission of
group chapter summaries, chapter presentations, research
report and presentation, and the group work evaluation
form through email on the due dates.
Important Deadlines
- Group leader submit files of chapter summary
(maximum 2 pages) and PowerPoint slides one
day before the class (at least 24 hours).
- Presentation Slides of research findings of all
groups must be ready for presentation in class
session 12 (our last class)
- Group leaders submit research report and
presentation slides on the due date (one week
after our last class).

1. Define OB
What is OB?
The study of factors that affect how individual,
groups and structure have on behavior within
organization (Robbins and Judge, 2008) for
improving organization effectiveness (Kondalkar,
2007).
What is organization?
A collection of people who work together and
coordinate their actions to achieve individual and
organizational goals.
Values of the Systematic Study of OB
Contributing Disciplines to the OB
How OB make org. more productive
 The study of OB helps managers improve org’l
effectiveness.
 A manager raises employee’s self-esteem or
beliefs about his or her ability to accomplish a
certain task in order to increase the employee’s
productivity or job satisfaction.
 A manager can change the reward system to
change employee’s belief about the extent to
which their rewards depend on their performance.

A manager can change the design of a
person’s job or the rules and procedures for
doing the job to reduce costs, make the task
more enjoyable, or make the task easier to

 Challenges from breakdown in ethical values: Changes
in values, attitudes, and beliefs brought about by changes
in a nation’s culture and the characteristics of its people.
 Challenges from social responsibility: Developing well-
being: the condition of being happy, healthy, and
prosperous.
 Challenges in dealing with diverse workforce:
individual differences resulting from age, gender, race,
ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic.
