Synchronous

Here are some suggestions on how to encourage students to embrace the new normal learning process: - Explain to students that synchronous learning allows for real-time interaction and collaboration, just like a traditional classroom. Emphasize the social and learning benefits. - Help students discover their own learning styles by providing links to online assessments. Encourage them to learn how they learn best. - When planning lessons, incorporate a variety of strategies, tasks and technologies to engage different learning styles. - Be flexible and understand that students may have different needs and challenges with the new online environment. Provide multiple options when possible. - Foster a sense of community and interaction during synchronous sessions through group activities, discussions, polls etc.

WHAT IS SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

A traditional
classroom is an
example of
“synchronous
learning”, where all
students learn the
same things at the
same time and in the
same place.
What is synchronous learning?

Synchronous computer-mediated communication (SCMC) takes

place with learners and teachers online at the same time.
“Interlocutors perceive each others’ presence in real-time” (Yamada
& Akahori 2007). This may lead to increased social presence (Short,
Williams & Christie 1976).
Synchronous Learning

It offers real-time

instruction and learning
interactions online. This
requires both students and
instructors to interact in a
specific virtual learning
environment at a specific time.
