Activity:
ASSESS ASPECTS OF YOUR DEVELOPMENT
Draw a large circle on a blank sheet of paper.
Divide the circle into 8 segments.
In each segment, write some descriptions of the
different aspects of yourself as follows:

1. Physical Self.
Describe yourself. Try not to censor any t
houghts which come to your mind. Include d
escriptions of your height, weight, facial
appearance, and quality of skin, hair and
descriptions of body areas such as your ne
ck, chest, waist, legs.

2. Intellectual Self.
Include here an assessment of how well you
reason and solve problems, your capacity t
o learn and create, your general amount of
knowledge, your specific areas of knowledg
e, wisdom you have acquired, and insights
you have.

3. Emotional Self.
Write as many words or phrase about typica
l feelings you have, feelings you seldom h
ave, feelings you try to avoid, feelings y
ou especially enjoy, feelings from your pa
st and present, and feelings which are ass

4. Sensual Self.
Write how you feel as a sensual person. Wh
at sense do you use most - sight, hearing,
speaking, smelling, touching? How do you f
eel about the different ways you take in i

y?

5. Interactional Self.
Include descriptions of your strengths and
weaknesses in intimate relationships and r
elationships to friends, family, co-studen
ts and strangers in social settings. Descr
ibe the strengths and weaknesses which you
r friends and family have noticed. Describ
e what kind of son or daughter, brother or
sister you are.

6. Nutritional Self.
How do you nourish yourself?

7. Contextual Self.
Descriptors could be in the areas of maint
enance of your living environment: reactio

8. Spiritual Self or Life Force.
Write words or phrases which tell about ho
w you feel in this area. This could includ
e your feelings about yourself and organiz
ed religion, reactions about your spiritua
l connections to others, feelings about yo
ur spiritual development and history, and
thought about your metaphysical self. Thin
k about your inner peace and joy. Think ab
out your spiritual regimen or routine.

Personal Assessment of Aspects of

Do some categories have more minus than plus are
as? The larger proportion of minus to plus areas
you have, the more effort will be needed to achi
eve positive self-esteem. If the vast majority o
f your minus responses are in one or two areas,
your self-esteem is likely to be good but has a
few self-estimates which need to be improved. Na
me some ways in which you can improve the minus
areas and further enhance the positive aspects.
