Parts of a Circle I

Secant – A line that intersects the circle

at a minimum of 2 distinct points.

Radius- A line segment from its center

to its circumference

Diameter- Straight line that passes

through the center of a circle and whose
end points lie on the circumference

Chord- Straight line whose end points

both lie on the circle. DOES NOT
PASS THROUGH THE CENTER.

Tangent- Straight line which touches

the circle at ONLY one point.
Parts of a Circle II

Arc- A connected section of the

circumference.

Segment- The region bounded by a

chord and the arc subtended by a chord.

Sector- The area of a circle enclosed by

two radii and an arc.
