METHODOLOGY
Research Design
Burns and Grove (2003) define a research design as “a blueprint
For conducting a study with maximum control over factors.
That may interfere with the validity of the findings”.
The nature of this topic under study demands the use of descriptive
research design.
Population
A research population according to McDonald (1994) is generally a large
collection of individuals, subjects or objects that is the main focus of a
scientific query. In this study, Samar National School under Senior High
School Department General Academic Strand was our population. The
Strand has a grand total enrollment of 185 students which constitute the
target population. Out of this 185, 98 males and 87 females.
Sampling Procedure
The sample for our study was 50 respondents, made up of 28 males and 22
females purposively sampled.
Purposive Sampling according to Brink (1996) is a non-probability
sampling method.
The sample chosen must have the same characteristics the researcher
In our case all the 50 purposively sampled students were chosen,
Purposive sampling has the following merits and demerits;
Research Instruments
The tool used in the study was a standardized questionnaire.
The questionnaire was divided into four sections;
Section 1, students’ related factors: Section 2, parents ‘related factors:
Section 3, teachers’ related factors
Students were given guidelines on how to answer the questions.
Students were made to fill the questionnaire at their own convenience.
The students selected were put in one class to complete the
questionnaires
Data Gathering Procedure
I collected the data through questionnaire to the sample to tick the
correct response against each question item. The questionnaire was
collected within a day.
Data Analysis
The data collected from 50 students above mentioned school, were coded
and entered into the computer and computer software SPSS was used to
analyzed the results using the frequency and percentage count.
