Definition

Mechatronics is the synergistic integration of sensors, actuators, signal

conditioning, power electronics, decision and control algorithms, and
computer hardware and software to manage complexity, uncertainty,
and communication in engineered systems.

Why Mechatronics?

• Improved functionality, quality and productivity of mechanical

products
• Automation and control such as, manufacturing processes and
equipments, process control, robotics, home automation, office
automation, and so on
• Mechatronics has enabled high level of flexibility and
sophistication in products and processes

Disadvantages
• Initial cost is high.

• It needs multi disciplinary engineering background required to

design and implementation.

• It needs Highly trained workers.

• It has complexity in identification and correction of problems in the

systems.

• Need more effort to convert old system into mechatronics system.

• Software to be installed.(Ex.Fuzzy logic,Artificial neural networks).
