GROUP 3
Case Study 3:
MOTORBUS COMPANY: Que Sera Sera
SUMMARY:
Motor Bus Corporation has total of 10 buses plying to Manila - Isabela Route. There are 2 maintenance
unit that was put up, one in Sampaloc Manila Terminal and the other one was in Iligan Isabela Terminal,
each unit has a full time mechanic and assistant. In 1993, Engineer Gaudencio Inductivo is the manager
of maintenance department.
The Operating units were operating normally until the company added a new buses and also
Engineer Inductivo encountered problems when it comes to purchasing needed parts and the
maintenance personnel are become so busy and exhausted because of new buses and lack of man
power. The problems has been noticed by the VP operations and he ordered Engineer Inductivo to
resolve the problem immediately however, Engineer Inductivo filed his application for retirement and it
was been approved on the same day. VP for operation assigned Engineer Hermogenes Ancheta who is
a former assistant manager of the mechanic department to be promoted as a manager. After the
promotion he started first to inspect the storage room and saw uneven supply of parts and the needed
parts are not enough and after that he was informed by the VP that the company will be fielding an
additional 50 new buses within 30 days. Engineer Ancheta is thinking how he will make this task of his
department as efficient and effective as possible.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
• What are the problems that Engineer Ancheta encountered
as a new appointed manager?
• How Engr. Ancheta will make the operation of his
department as effective and efficient as possible?
METHOD:
Inventory control- Every day they will check the stock in the inventory. So that we
can list down what are the items that needed and immediately restocking or not and
also to clean the inventory. Those items that are expired or phased out will be sold
to the junk shop. Then for the items that over purchased and not that usually needed
will be brought to the retailers and be sold.
Purchased and materials- by doing list in inventory it will be easy for us to know
what will be the item or parts that needed to buy and not. It will help us not to just
purchased any parts that they needed even it has a lot of stock in the inventory. By
doing this probably there will be no over stocking and phasing out of the item in the
inventory because of a long keeping
METHOD:
Reward power - to those people that completed their task immediately
and efficiently they should be given a proper compensation, promote
and alleviate their position, and any certificate will do to boost their
skill and the man power activity
PROPOSED SOLUTION:
Therefore, by fixing the inventory, purchasing materials and man power. By listing the items
in the inventory will help them to know which items are needed restock or needed to
discard. It will also help the listing to know what item we should purchase and not to buy.
In man power, we intend to add another skilled worker. 45 in mechanic and 45 assistant
mechanic. Because maintaining a bus with a 1 worker will be a path in to accidents. We can
assume that 2 or more worker will be enough to maintain one bus. So that the company
may assure the safety of their busses.
Also to lessen the threat of worker to quit their job. Those who work more than 8 and
above years may teach the new hired worker and might have given a chance a promotion
and bonuses if they excel in their work.
This are the expenses of the company incased they will hired 90 workers ovel all of
mechanic and assistant mechanic.
Salary =15,059 Half month and end month salary=2
15,059/2=7,529.5 pesos 7,529.5/15days= 501.96 pesos per day
Therefore if we add 90 workers 15,059 x 90= 1,355,310 pesos will be the salary expense of
the company.
Conclusion:
Devising a good method of purchasing parts will make Engr. Ancheta’s department
more efficient because it will remove the hassle that was caused of waiting for part
to repair their buses. By doing this, Engr. Ancheta will have his department to run
smoothly rather than waiting for supply that may cause the delays of bus
maintenance. Disposing the obsolete part will provide more space to the new parts
that are needed by the company. They can also sell it to have an additional
budget/income in their department.
Engineer Ancheta and the mechanics should always conduct an inspection and
inventory in the storage room of parts so that he can monitor the uses of parts that
the company was providing their Mechanics.
Engineer Ancheta must also reward the best employees who do their job adequately
by giving them a promotion
