Rizal arrived in Leipzig, Germany on August 14, 1886. He befriended several professors during his time there, studying subjects like entomology and anthropology. In October 1886, he visited two large beer manufacturing facilities and met with Dr. Hans Meyer of the German Bibliographical Institute. Rizal left Leipzig for Halle on October 21. He arrived in Dresden on October 29, where he visited the Palacio Japonais and met with Dr. A.B. Meyer of Dresden University. Rizal was impressed by a painting at the art museum before staying only two days in Dresden and leaving for Berlin on November 1, 1886.

 Rizal met Dr. Adolph Meyer, the director of the Anthropological
and Ethnological Museum. He stayed only two days in the city.

 He heard the Holy Mass in a Catholic church which greatly


impressed him, for he wrote “Truly I have never in my life heard a
Mass whose music had greater sublimity and intonation”
