BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
“
English has been decided to be the first foreign language in
Indonesia. It has been used by most countries of the world as
either a first or second foreign language. It is chosen for broader
communication in International relations. In the recent
development of ELT in Indonesia, English has been taught since
primary schools as an elective subject as a basic ability to get used
to exploring the wider world of education.

Therefore, the application of English in secondary schools
cannot be ignored as a continuation of the application of
English in primary schools. It is very important to be
developed again so that students have more complex
competencies in order to prepare them for interactions to
face competitiveness in a global society.
In the development of ELT especially for Secondary
schools in Indonesia, there are many problems that
arise in the classroom experienced by teachers and
students during the teaching and learning process.
Therefore we need the right solution to solve these problems. The aims of
this paper are identify the ELT in Secondary school during teaching and
learning process, problems that arise and possible solutions that can help
solve these problems that faced by Teacher’s side.

Generally, teaching English might seem similar to any other teaching, yet it has
own unique challenges. These challenges exist in various forms A number of
studies has discussed these challenges along with their solutions. Below are the
challenges encountered in teaching English. The challenges in teaching English
faced almost by Teacher in Indonesian context are varied in which they are
related to the students, the teachers, and the facilities.

Students’ side.
The challenges that often appear in teaching English comes
from students as well are students’ lack of vocabulary mastery, low
concentration, lack of parents’ support, lack of discipline,
boredom, speaking problem, Pronunciation problem, Confidence
issue.

Teachers’ side
Challenges in teaching English are also faced because of teachers’ limited
teaching knowledge and development. English teaching challenges from
teachers’ perspectives including shortage of training, limited mastery of
teaching methods, unfamiliarity to IT, and lack of professional development.

Facilities issue
In facilities issue, it covers not only about the things concern with
facilities provided and time devoted, but also the support facilitated
by students’ parents to learn English. The availability of sufficient
textbooks, computers, listening devices, hands-on tools, and other
teaching instruments is a challenging assignment in English teaching
and learning process.

Solve the Problems”
Solutions to Solve English Teaching Problems here are only for English teacher
who teach English in Secondary level of Indonesian context, and the rest are not
yet found. Nevertheless, to some extent, these solutions can be used and referred
to a certain problem.

CONCLUSSIO

The problems faced in teaching English indicate that
teachers are faced with a lack of training, limited
mastery of teaching methods, ignorance of IT, lack of
professional development, facilities and resources.
Inadequate, and time constraints. On the other hand,
other problems that come from the student's side are
lack of vocabulary mastery, low concentration, lack of
discipline, student burnout, and lack of confidence to
speak.

In overcoming learning problems in the classroom, such as reforming
attitude that is done by the school and the teachers, including holding
study club and teachers’ training as well as improving facilities and
resources.
Applying various teaching methods and techniques, matching
students’ proficiency level and learning situation, managing
classroom, making use of available resources, giving motivational
feedback, and doing self-reflection.
