1. Introduction.
1.1 Description and Functional Requirements.

XE PIAN XE NAMNOY Hydroelectric Power Project , the

2100kN/1200kN - 2.6m hydraulic hoists are provided to operate bottom
outlet service gate. The hydraulic cylinder adopts a vertical arrangement, and
the hydraulic cylinder is positioned at EL.726.21m. The lifting head of
cylinder is connected to the gate. The project has 1 bay(bottom outlet service
gate and maintenance gate), during normal operation, the service gate work,
the maintenance gate always opening, the service gate breakdown or in need
of repair, the maintenance gate working, instead of working the function of the
service gate. Each hydraulic system consists of 2 cylinder, and 2 Stroke testing
device and 1 pump station and 2 control valve assembly and 1 local control
panel (LCP) and 1 pipe system. Each pump station provides two motors (one
main and one standby). The control system is installed in LCP nearby pump
station. Pump station and LCP are installed on concrete platform at
EL.725.65m. (Refer to JHMC-XPXN-1XN01MY001)

 The Hydraulic hoist is designed to mainly function as following:

1. Manually operate the gate;

2. Automatically operate the gate;
3. Adequate spared parts in case of any fault: motor, spared pump ‐motor in
each HPU, and other spared parts for installation and maintenance.
4. System pressure protection (Ref. dwg JHMC –XPXN ‐1XN01MU002).
5. For hydraulic oil: filtering, dehumidifying, cleanness detecting,
temperature monitoring, and volume/level indicating.
6. Automatically detect gate position by calculating the stroke of cylinder
Gatepositions.

2.2 Operation From Local Control Panel

Operating switches and signaling lamps of gate is arranged on the control

cabinet’s door.
The hydraulic hoist has three control modes can be selected by switch in
site: Normal, Off and Manual modes.
 In the mode of “Normal” control, the gate is controlled by DCS, operation
command come from the DCS.
 In the mode of “Off” control, the gate is locked and all operation
commands are noneffective .
 In the mode of “Manual” control, the gate is controlled by the local control
cabinet, operation command come from the local.
 Operation Of HMI
 Operation of Power Supply

Open the control cabinet’s door, turn on the main circuit breaker, then
switch on all circuit breakers for control circuit in cabinet one by one. Close
cabinet’ s door after switching on all circuit. Switch off main circuit breaker if
this hoist is not used in long‐term.
Operator can trip the main circuit breaker by push red “Emergency
Stop” pushbutton to immediately switch off main power in case of emergency.
Main circuit breaker will be switched on again after removing the emergency
condition.
Note: Use “ Emergency stop” pushbutton to switch off power is forbidden in
normal operation condition.

 Notices During Operation
• To achieve proper viscosity of hydraulic oil, hydraulic system shall be first started without
load for 5‐10 min. Hydraulic oil may be very thin in the summer while may be very stiff in
the winter. Especially when in winter temperature is lower than 5℃, hydraulic system can
be started without load for 2 or 3 times until detected temperature is suitable for operations.
• For any commissioning or maintenance, manual or local operation mode shall be adopted
• If any abnormal as following, the hydraulic hoist shall be stopped and inspected
immediately, to remove any fault: Abnormal noise; insufficient pressure or great fluctuation
of pressure; insufficient flow or great fluctuation of flow; overtop of oil temperature, etc.
• During the operation, the following shall be observed and inspected any time, to avoid any
accident: Temperature rising of motor and pump; system pressure; high pressure
connections, etc
• During the operation, the following shall be recorded in detail to provide references for
future maintenance and fault analysis: Replacement of hydraulic oil; replacement of
hydraulic components; fault handling, etc.
• The hydraulic hoist shall be operated regularly, minimum once per month, to discover any
fault in time and prepare for any untimely need.
• The hydraulic hoist shall be stopped and inspected immediately although there is only tiny
and partial leakage of oil. It is forbidden to block the leakage with hands or goods.
• The hydraulic oil, if small leakage, shall be cleaned; if mass leakage, shall be retrieved and
no
• Discharge into drainage system or the river; if replaced, shall be handled properly and no
optional discharge.
