INTRODUCTION

• Ahmednagar Switchgear Works (ASW),

inaugurated in March 1984, has evolved into
a growth centre for the electrical and
automation business of L&T.
• This campus houses factories of two
business units – Electrical Standard Products
(ESP) on 157430 sq. m. and Electrical
Systems & Equipment (ESE) on 126781 sq.
m. amid a vast expanse of greenery.
• These factories manufacture a host of low
and medium voltage switchgear products and
customised electrical systems. They also
incorporate a tool manufacturing module.

WORK AT L & T-
I was reporting at Switchgear Design & Development Center(SDDC) department
L & T,ASW.

SDDC dept. is responsible for design of the products. They provide all the drawings,
release the component list and pass it to the engineering dept.
According to customer demand or due to problems occurred change in design is carried out
and accordingly new design is implemented.

CONTACTOR

A contactor is an electrically controlled switch used for

switching an electrical power circuit.

 A contactor is typically controlled by a circuit which

has a much lower power level than the switched circuit.

Type of the Contactors

•MK Contactor
•ML Contactor
•MN Contactor
•MNX Contactor
•MO Contactor

Department of EED 8
Type of MO Contactors

•Frame 1 : 25A – 45A

•Frame 2 : 50A – 70A
•Frame 3 : 80A – 110A

Types of the MNX contactor

•Frame 1: 9A - 22A
•Frame 2: 25A – 40A
•Frame 3: 50A – 80A
•Frame 4: 95A – 140A
•Frame 5: 185A – 250A
•Frame 6: 300A – 650A

BRIDGE
• A bridge is a moving part that has to house all the other moving parts of the contactor.
• It houses the moving magnet, moving contacts, and the contact springs
ELECTRO MAGNET
• Fixed magnet:-The fixed magnet is clamped to the base plate of the housing. It has a pair of
shading rings at the pole faces. These rings are provided to cut the flux produced by the coil, while
the circuit is cut-off.
• Moving magnet:-This magnet is pushed against a rubber pad (in the bridge) by a pin passed
through it and the bridge. It moves along with the bridge assembly, when the coil is energized and
the two magnets attract each other.
HOUSING SYSTEM
• The housing of the contactor is made of insulating materials like thermostats, thermoplastics.
• The front housing comprises of the fixed contacts, moving contacts, moving magnet, contact
springs and bridge. The rear housing has the fixed magnet and the coil.
• Generally thermoplastic is used for rear housing as it is mechanically strong. Thermostat can be
used for front housing because of its better thermal properties.
