The passive voice is used to show interest in the person or object that experiences an action rather than the one that performs it. The passive is formed using some form of "be" plus the past participle of the main verb. The document then provides examples of forming the passive voice in the simple present, present continuous, present perfect, past, past continuous, past perfect, future, future continuous, and future perfect tenses.

SUB CHAPTER 4

In The Language Features

PASSIVE
VOICE
• The passive voice
•  is used to show interest in the person or object that experiences an
action rather than the person or object that performs the action. In
other words, the most important thing or person becomes the subject
of the sentence.
• The passive voice is a grammatical construction (specifically, a
“voice”). The noun or noun phrase that would be the object of an
active sentence (such as Our troops defeated the enemy) appears as the
subject of a sentence or clause in the passive voice (e.g. The enemy was
defeated by our troops).
