Purchasing

 Refers to a Business or Organization attempting to Acquire


Goods or Services to Accomplish its Goal.

GOODS & SERVICES
GOODS :- Goods are items that are tangible, such as
pens, salt, shoes, hats and folders

SERVICES :-Services are activities provided by other


people, such as doctors, lawn care workers, dentists,
barbers, waiters, or online servers

JDF PROCUREMENT ENTITIES
Jamaica Defense Force Logistics Company (Logs Coy) acts
as a centralized procurement unit while some goods and
services are procured on a decentralized basis by the
following units:
 The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard.
 The Engineer Regiment.
 The Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing.
 The Jamaica Defence Force Wellness Centre
(Pharmaceuticals).
 The Jamaica Defence Force Work Shop.

Categories of Items Purchased by the JDF

The purchasing of items for the JDF is done based on the



three levels of logistics:
1.Strategic - Supplies required for training and equipping the
force.
2.Operational - Supplies required for the staging and
movement of troops in an operational area.
3.Tactical - Supplies required for generally sustaining the
JDF’s day to day function.
These supplies have been broken down into ten (10) classes:

1. Subsistence: Primarily packaged operational
rations (Meals Ready to Eat)
Water: Primarily for drinking, medical treatment,
sanitation and food preparation

3. Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL)
