LTE Strategic: MCS - Over RB - KarangAsem

This document discusses strategies for downlink consistency in resource block allocation and modulation and coding scheme selection. It proposes prioritizing allocating users running small packet services with a higher MCS to increase spectral efficiency, rather than allocating more resource blocks. However, this could increase delay and error rates for those users. The document recommends a less aggressive approach that allows the base station to allocate a higher MCS when possible instead of always using a lower MCS across more resource blocks. A field trial is proposed on sites with downlink PRB utilization under 40% to test this strategy.

Tutela Improvement – Downlink Consistency

STRATEGIC

Aggressive MCS Over RB Allocation Strategy

MCS selection with prioritized RBs function of lowering the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) index to increase the number of resource blocks (RBs) with priority for UEs
running small-packet services. If the threshold of TTIs within which downlink scheduling is performed and RBs are surplus is less than this parameter value, the function is
enabled. It leads to spectral efficiency decrement as more RB are used to deliver the same TBS size and also increase the interference level to the neighbor as more RB is used.
Less aggressive RB prioritization over MCS is advised to allow eNodeB to allocates higher MCS instead of using low MCS with more RB.
