BHimarao Ramji Ambedkar also
known as Babasaheb Ambedkar
was born on 14th April 1891,in
Indore,M.P.He was born in to a
Mahar caste,who were treated as
untouchables.
During his school days Amedkar
had faced a lot of discrimination,
insults and unfair treatment in
school both by teachers and
classmates belonging to higher
caste.
In the family of four ,it was only
Ambedkar who completed his
schooling and went to college and
this was considered a great
achievement by his people.
Ambedkar got his graduation
and post graduation from
University of Mumbai
He later earned doctorates in
Economics from both
Columbia university and
University of London gaining
reputation as a
Scholar.
He got married to
Ramabai at a very young
age. She died after
prolonged illness at age of
35.Later Ambedkar
married Savita. She was
the one who took good
care of him.Every one
called her Mai.
During his lifetime Dr.AMBEDKAR inspired
the Dalit Buddhist Movement.
He was member of Constitution drafting
committee
He was Independent India's first Minister of
Law and Justice
He is considered as the Chief Architect of
Constitution of India.
☆ CASTE SYSTEM & ERADICATION OF UNTOUCHABILITY
B. R. Ambedkar felt that there is no caste, no inequality and no
superiority and all are equal.
There was a close relation between caste system and untouchability.
It was therefore not possible to abolish the untouchability without
abolishing the caste system.
He favoured eradication of the caste system and rearrangement of
society on the basis of equality, fraternity and liberty.
B. R. Ambedkar dedicated his whole life
To fight for the annihilation of caste by starting movement
against the evils of the caste system
To remove untouchability.
To advocate for Social justice in the society
Ambedkar's social justice is based on moral values and self-
respect and wanted to reorganise the society on the basis of
equality and rationality.
☆ WOMEN
B. R. Ambedkar said, “ I measure the progress of a
community by the degree of progress which women
have achieved.”
☆ LABOURS
B. R. Ambedkar also propounded the labour charter
which has been the guidelines for labour welfare in the
independent India. Also advocated for the maternity
benefit, holiday benefits, health and sanitation and
social security for the welfare of labours.
