Excel Lesson 4 Formatting Continued

The document provides instructions for an Excel lesson on formatting. It describes three formatting tools - Merge & Centre, Wrap Text, and Conditional Formatting. For the task, students are asked to complete three exercises applying these formatting tools: 1) Merge and centre cells covering a range of columns, 2) Apply wrap text to cells so text flows onto multiple lines rather than being cut off, and 3) Conditionally format cells to assign colors to grades to highlight top and bottom scores. Completing the tasks will demonstrate proficiency with these last three formatting skills covered in the lesson.

Task 2 Skills: Merge & Centre / Wrap text / Conditional Formatting

Merge & Centre This has been merged and

centred as it covers a range of
columns

Is a tool in Excel that enables

different nearby cells to be
joined into a single larger cell.
This is finished by choosing all
cells to be merged and picking
the “Merge Cells” button.

Center means that it enables

the alignment of text to be in
the center.

Wrap Text

Wrap text doe exactly what it says,

it wraps the text around the cell.
In Microsoft Excel and
other spreadsheet programs, Wrap Text is a feature that
shows all information in a cell, even if it overflows the cell
borders. For example, in the picture, cell G2 has text that
is cut off because cell H2 has text. However, cell G3 has
the Wrap Text feature enabled (found under the Home
tab) that forces the text to move to the next line if full
words wouldn't be readable.

Formatting
Conditional formatting is used to change the formatting of
a cell based on a condition.

For example: I have a year 7 class of pupils

grades that show what results they have
achieved. These results vary from A-E
grade. I want the pupils that received an A
grade to stand out to me and the same with
the pupils with E grades. I would used
conditional formatting to assign colours to
these grades so that when that information
is entered the information is clear and the
colour is assigned to the cell.
Complete the 3 tasks based on the
following:
Merge & Centre
Wrap Text
Conditional Formatting.
