INTRODUCTION
After independence activity of parliament was increases, the demand for
accommodation for parliamentary parties/groups, meeting hall for parties, committee
rooms and offices for the chairperson of parliamentary committees had increased
To meet additional demands, parliament house annexe was constructed.

The foundation stone of the Extension building was laid in May 2009 by Vice-
President M Hamid Ansari and then Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

The new structure has two blocs spread over 39,495 square meters.

The construction work started in May 2011 and was completed in December 2016.
this building was built with indigenous material and by Indian labour, the
architecture of the building bears a close imprint of the Indian tradition

Red sandstone is used for entire


complex which create a
harmony with surrounding
