Song
Aji Lhamu Song
Aji lhamo is the one of the most prominent folk song
forms practiced by the Monpa Tribe of Tawang.
It is basically the Tibetan version of the Hindu Epic
Ramayana.
There are mainly five characters in this Song Drama.
Nyapa is the Central character and Nyao is the Rival
character.
lhamu and Lhum are two females character and Gyeli is
another character.
The characters have mythological origin.
Lhamu is a fairy from heaven, who came to Earth and
later became the queen of Gyeli.
This Song form also portraits the Grand Ceremony of the
Wedding of King Chhoegey Norzang and Lhamu. This
Song form is performed during the Losar Festival.
Snow Lion Song
The snow lion song may be
performed as a secular song,
or as a ritual song performed
by bon po monks.
This song may also be found
among people in other
Himalayan regions such as the
Monpa people in Arunachal
Pradesh, and in Sikkim where it
is called Singhi Chham.
Thangka Painting
Despite a few elbows to the face,
Tsering pushed through the broil of
Tibetan worshippers and lifted her
bawling two-year-old over the mad
crush, briefly pressing the girl’s
forehead to a passing sacred scroll.
Scores of monks and men heaved the
enormous thangka — an image of
Buddha painted on silk, rolled up in a
tight cylinder while in transit — through
the packed streets around Rongwo
Monastery in China’s northwestern
province of Qinghai for a religious ritual
wrapping up of Losar, the Tibetan new
year.
Monastic Song
o The song is accompanied by music played
by monks using traditional Tibetan musical
instruments.
o The dances often offer moral instruction
relating to karuṇā (compassion) for sentient
beings and are held to bring merit to all who
perceive them.
o Chams are considered a form of meditation
and an offering to the gods.
