CONTROLLING WITH IOT

Presented by

EC097 UDUPA VIKHYATH
DESCRIPTION
• In Green house plants required regulated climatic condition to grow. In order to get better quality plants we need to
control  humidity, ventilation, air temperature, soil nature etc….The IOT based Greenhouse Environment
Monitoring and controlling project uses five sensors to detect the Temperature, Light, Humidity and Soil moisture
with which we can fulfill our task for the Greenhouse or botanical gardens
• Moreover in today’s world everyone are preferring automation rather than manual so with this project we can
achieve this goal.
FEATURES
• Keep an eye on every KPI(Key performance indicator) of a greenhouse.
• Get real-time updates anywhere anytime and also action according to the situation.
• Go for plant-centric lighting for maximum production.
• Protect plants from extreme weather fluctuations.
• Track total yield and cost savings.

DEVICE LIST
• TEMPRATURE SENSOR
• HUMIDITIY SENSOR
• LIGHT SENSOR
• MOISTURE SENSOR
• MICROCONTOLLER
• LCD DISPLAY
• FAN
• BULB
• DC MOTOR
REASON FOR SELECTION OF EACH DEVICE
1)Temperature & Humidity Sensor  Technical Details
 Low cost
• DHT11  3 to 5V power and I/O
• The DHT11 is a basic, ultra low-cost digital  2.5mA max current use during conversion (while requesting data)
temperature and humidity sensor. It uses a capacitive
humidity sensor and a thermistor to measure the  Good for 20-80% humidity readings with 5% accuracy
surrounding air and spits out a digital signal on the data  Good for 0-50°C temperature readings ±2°C accuracy
pin (no analog input pins needed).
 No more than 1 Hz sampling rate (once every second)
• The only real downside of this sensor is you can only
 Body size 15.5mm x 12mm x 5.5mm
get new data from it once every 2 seconds. Compared
to DHT22 this sensor is less precise, less accurate, and  4 pins with 0.1" spacing
works in a smaller range of temperature/humidity, but
its smaller and less expensive
Price Range: 120-125
Light Sensor
• The light sensor is a passive device that converts the light energy into an electrical signal output.

Technical Details:
Can detect ambient brightness and light intensity

Adjustable sensitivity (via blue digital potentiometer adjustment)

Operating voltage 3.3V-5V

Output Type
                    Analog voltage output -A0
                    Digital switching outputs (0 and 1) -D0
With fixed bolt hole for easy installation

Small board PCB size: 3cm * 1.6cm

Power indicator (red) and the digital switch output indicator (green)

Using LM393 comparator chip, stable

Price Range: 40-50
Soil Moisture Sensor
• A resistive soil moisture sensor works by using the relationship between electrical resistance
and water content to gauge the moisture levels of the soil.

• 30%-60% is consider as good moisture level for soil. It will detect when moistures drops.

Technical Details:
 Operating voltage: 3.3V~5V

 Dual output mode, analog output more accurate

 A fixed bolt hole for easy installation

 With power indicator (red) and digital switching output indicator (green)
Having LM393 comparator chip, stable

Panel PCB Dimension: Approx.3cm x 1.5cm

Soil Probe Dimension: Approx. 6cm x 3cm

Cable Length: Approx.21cm

VCC: 3.3V-5V

GND: GND

DO: digital output interface(0 and 1)

AO: analog output interface

Price Range:
55-60
MICROCONTROLLER
• AVR micro-controller is manufactured by Atmel corporation in the year 1996. It is based on RISC Instruction set
Architecture (ISA) and also called as Advanced Virtual RISC. AT90S8515 was the initial micro-controller belongs
to AVR family.
• AVR micro-controller is most popular category of controller and it is cheap. It is used in many robotic
applications.
• It is classified into three types such as TinyAVR, MegaAVR, and XmegaAVR.
1)TinyAVR- It is in small size, less memory and suitable for simple applications.

2)MegaAVR-This is the most popular AVR having a good amount of memory and a higher number of inbuilt
peripherals and which is suitable for moderate to complex applications.

3)XmegaAVR- It is mainly for complex applications and requires huge program memory and high speed.

• Although, there are many AVR Microcontroller family such as ATmega8, ATmega16, ATmega32, etc. Many
applications in AVR which are used in home automation, touch screen, medical devices, automobiles, and defense.
• ATmega328P is a low power, CMOS 8-bit microcontrollers based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture.

• A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat-panel display or other electronically modulated optical device that uses the
light-modulating properties of liquid crystals combined with polarizers. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly,
instead using a backlight or reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.
