Introduction
• The Indian economy depends very heavily on the production of agriculture. In
the agriculture field, the detection of plant diseases are plays a significant
role.
• Inconsistency and delay in the identification of plant diseases cause a
reduction in the quantity and quality of yield.
• Identification of the plant diseases is the key to preventing the losses in the
yield and quantity of the agricultural product.
• It is very difficult to monitor the plant diseases manually. It requires
tremendous amount of work, expertize in the plant diseases, and also require
the excessive processing time.
Introduction
• Hence, image processing and Machine learning techniques are used for the
detection of plant diseases.
• Disease detection involves the steps like
• Image acquisition,
• Image pre-processing,
• Image segmentation,
• Feature extraction
• Classification.

Data flow Diagram
• A Data flow Diagram is a graphical
representation of the “flow” of data
through an information system, modelling
its process aspects.
• A DFD is often used as a preliminary step to
create an overview of the system without
going into great detail, which can later be
elaborated.
Design
Use-case diagram
• Use case diagram is a graphic
depiction of the interactions among
the elements of a system.
• Use cases will specify the expected
behavior, and the exact method of
making it happen.
• Use cases once specified can be
denoted both textual and visual
representation.

Input leaf Pre-processing Feature extraction
• The flow diagram represents the flow
image
from one activity to another activity,
the activity starts from input leaf image NN classification
through digital camera, and then input
leaf is preprocessed and extract the
features like color, shape, texture and
Abnormal Normal
so on.
• Now, the processed image is classified
as Normal or Abnormal.

system
1. Image acquisition
• Image Acquisition is the first step in any image processing system
• The general aim of any image acquisition is to transform an optical image (real-world
data) into an array of numerical data which could be later manipulated on a
computer.
2. Image pre-processing
The aim of pre-processing is an improvement of
the image data that suppresses undesired
distortions or enhances some image features
relevant for further processing and analysis task.
Design
3. Image segmentation
Image segmentation is a method in which a digital
image is broken down into various subgroups called
Image segments which helps in reducing the
complexity of the image to make further processing
or analysis of the image simpler.
4. Feature Extraction
Feature extraction is a type of dimensionality
reduction where a large number of pixels of the
image are efficiently represented in such a way that
interesting parts of the image are captured
effectively.
Design
5. Classification
Image segmentation is a method in which a digital image is broken down into
various subgroups called Image segments which helps in reducing the
complexity of the image to make further processing or analysis of the image
simpler.

Conclusion
• An application for identifying the plant diseases and predicting the necessary
precautions for the disease will be implemented.
• The proposed system will be applicable for different plants. The system will be
trained with image dataset of disease effected parts of plants.
• The plant parts include root, leaf, fruit and stem.
• This system will help to identify the plant diseases at the initial stage and
proper precautions can be taken without consulting the experts.
• The machine learning and image processing technology will ensure the high
accuracy of the system.
