CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

• Introduction

• Grade viewing system is a system that allows the student to

view their grades anytime, anywhere. Grade Viewing gives
attention in grade transparency which enables the students to
know and get aware of their academic performance and evaluate
themselves unto what subject they are good at.
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

• Introduction

• The proponents’ study Grade Viewing focuses on the monitoring and management of
student’s grade and promotes transparency to give answer to the students’ doubts with
regards to their grades. The development of a system that will monitor the students’
grades of the students in Goldenstate College is expected to contribute to the
development of the school’s information system. The awareness of the students to their
grades will serve as a reliable reference to them to improve their studies to attain high
grades.
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

The current process or system in Goldenstate College to

inquire for student’s grade is manual where the students
need to go to the registrar’s office and queue for the inquiry
of their grades and will receive it in printed form, which the
proponents thought to be inefficient, costly, and hassle.
Through the existing system, the school will have to expend
paper and ink for the printing of grades for each student.
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

The grade viewing system will help solve those problems

by simply being used. The study will enable the students
to view their grades through their phones or online. The
students no longer need to queue or even go to the
registrar’s office to inquire for their grades. The school
can reduce expenses by using the system because they
won’t need to print grades for each student.
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

People formulating ideas to invent or to have strategic methods

to make some best solutions and innovation to their business,
and we as an IT student we conduct some study on our school
and we ask some feedback from the students regarding on the
how they give the process of viewing grades from registrar office
to students on Goldenstate College. As an Information
Technology student we formulated some ideas and we proposed
the Grade Viewing application that would make their lives easier.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES/SYSTEM

Web Development
Web development is the work involved in developing a Web site for the Internet (World Wide
Web) or an intranet (a private network). Web development can range from developing a simple
single static page of plain text to complex web applications, electronic businesses, and social
network services. A more comprehensive list of tasks to which Web development commonly
refers, may include Web engineering, Web design, Web content development, client liaison,
client-side/server-side scripting, Web server and network security configuration, and e-
commerce development. Among Web professionals, "Web development" usually refers to the
main non-design aspects of building Web sites: writing markup and coding. Web development
may use content management systems (CMS) to make content changes easier and available
with basic technical skills.

Mobile Operating System

A mobile operating system is an operating system that helps to run other application
software on mobile devices. It is the same kind of software as the famous computer operating
systems like Linux and Windows, but now they are light and simple to some extent.
The operating systems found on smartphones include Symbian OS, iPhone OS, RIM's
BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS, Android, and Maemo. Android, WebOS, and Maemo
are all derived from Linux. The iPhone OS originated from BSD and NeXTSTEP, which are
related to Unix.
Chapter III
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Technicality of the Project

• This is for the processes utilized by the proposed Grade viewing system to solve
problems in the current system, as well as for the processes carried out in solving the
problem using the proposed system.
Chapter III
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

• Figure 1: Current Process

Chapter III
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

• This figure above shows the current process of submitting grades, checking grades and
assignments to subjects for the teacher. First the teacher checks what subjects and schedule he/she
will be teaching. Then the registrar assigns the teacher to a subject and schedule. After that the
teacher will conduct a class and give projects to the student, and then the student will submit the
said projects or requirements given by the teacher which will be the basis of their grade. After
computing the student’s grades, the teacher will submit the grades to the registrar and the registrar
will encode it to the system. If the grades have been encoded to the system, the students go to the
registrar’s office to check their grades and the registrar will hand it to them in a printed form.
Chapter III
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

1. Figure 2: The proposed Project

Chapter III
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

• The figure above shows the project proposed. The process begins with the registrar posting
the assigned subjects and schedule for the teachers in the web system. Then the teacher
can access his/her account to check his/her own designated subject and schedules. Next
will be the natural process of giving projects and requirements, that will be submitted by the
students. Once the teacher is done computing the grades of the student, the student’s grade
will be submitted by the teacher to the registrar. After encoding the grades to the school
database, the registrar will post the grades to the web system. Lastly the student will have a
mobile app that is connected to the web system that allows them to view their grades.
