What is Praise and Worship?

What is Praise?
When the LORD saw that Leah was not
31

loved, he enabled her to conceive, but

Rachel remained childless.  Leah
32

became pregnant and gave birth to a

son. She named him Reuben, for she said,
“It is because the LORD has seen my
misery. Surely my husband will love me
now.”
33
She conceived again, and when she gave
birth to a son she said, “Because
the LORD heard that I am not loved, he
gave me this one too.” So she named him
Simeon. Again she conceived, and when
34

she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at

last my husband will become attached to
me, because I have borne him three sons.”
So he was named Levi.
35
She conceived again, and
when she gave birth to a son
she said, “This time I will
praise the LORD.” So she
named him Judah.Then she
stopped having children.
What is Worship?
What is Worship?
The LORD visited Sarah as he had
said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he
had promised.  And Sarah conceived

and bore Abraham a son in his old

age at the time of which God had
spoken to him.  Abraham called the

name of his son who was born to him,

whom Sarah bore him, Isaac.
He said, “Take your son, your

only son Isaac, whom you love,

and go to the land of Moriah,
and offer him there as a burnt
offering on one of the
mountains of which I shall tell
you.”

So Abraham rose early in the
morning, saddled his donkey, and
took two of his young men with
him, and his son Isaac. And he cut
the wood for the burnt offering
and arose and went to the place of
which God had told him.

On the third day Abraham lifted
up his eyes and saw the place
from afar.  Then Abraham said to

his young men, “Stay here with

the donkey; I and the boy will go
over there and worship and come
again to you.”

And Abraham took the
wood of the burnt offering
and laid it on Isaac his son.
And he took in his hand the
fire and the knife. So they
went both of them together.

And Isaac said to his father
Abraham, “My father!” And
he said, “Here I am, my son.”
He said, “Behold, the fire and
the wood, but where is the
lamb for a burnt offering?”
Abraham said, “God

will provide for himself

the lamb for a burnt
offering, my son.” So
they went both of them
together.
When they came to the place

of which God had told him,

Abraham built the altar there
and laid the wood in order and
bound Isaac his son and laid
him on the altar, on top of the
wood.
Then Abraham reached out his
10

hand and took the knife to

slaughter his son.  But the
11

angel of the LORD called to
him from heaven and said,
“Abraham, Abraham!” And he
said, “Here I am.”
12
He said, “Do not lay your
hand on the boy or do anything
to him, for now I know that
you fear God, seeing you have
not withheld your son, your
only son, from me.”
13
And Abraham lifted up his eyes
and looked, and behold, behind
him was a ram, caught in a thicket
by his horns. And Abraham went
and took the ram and offered it up
as a burnt offering instead of his
son.
14
So Abraham called the
name of that
place, “The LORD will
provide”; as it is said to this
day, “On the mount of
the LORD it shall be
provided.”
1 After these
things God tested
Abraham and said to
him, “Abraham!” And
he said, “Here I am.”
And the angel of
15

the LORD called to Abraham a
second time from heaven  and
16

said, “By myself I have sworn,

declares the LORD, because you
have done this and have not
withheld your son, your only son,
I will surely bless you, and I will surely
17

multiply your offspring as the stars of

heaven and as the sand that is on the
seashore. And your offspring shall
possess the gate of his enemies,  and in
18

your offspring shall all the nations of the

earth be blessed, because you have
obeyed my voice.”
What is Worship?
Therefore, I urge you, brothers
and sisters, in view of God’s
mercy, to offer your bodies as a
living sacrifice, holy and
pleasing to God—this is your
true and proper worship.
Romans 12:1
“For God so loved the
16

world, that he gave his

only Son, that whoever
believes in him should
not perish but have eternal
life. John 3:16
And he said to
15

them, “Go into all the

world and proclaim the
gospel to the whole
creation. Mark 15:16

because, if you confess with your
mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe
in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be
saved.  For with the heart one
10

believes and is justified, and with the

mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:9-10
17
By faith Abraham, when
he was tested, offered up
Isaac, and he who had
received the promises was
in the act of offering up his
only son,
of whom it was said, “Through
18

Isaac shall your offspring be

named.”  He considered that God
19

was able even to raise him from

the dead, from which, figuratively
speaking, he did receive him back.
Now the eleven
16

disciples went to Galilee, to the

mountain to which Jesus had
directed them.  And when
17

they saw him they worshiped

him, but some doubted.
And Jesus came and
18

said to them, “All
authority in heaven and
on earth has been given
to me.
19
Go therefore and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching
20

them to observe all that I have

commanded you. And behold, I am
with you always, to the end of the
age.”
as beloved
children.  And walk in love, as

Christ loved us and gave

himself up for us,
a fragrant offering and
sacrifice to God. Ephesians
5:1-2
