• Countable nouns:
• There is a pineapple.

• There is an apple.

• There are four bananas.

Attention: there are some nouns that always are in plural


and considered countable nouns; for example: leftovers.
COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

• Uncountable nouns:
• There is meat for breakfast.
• There is rice.
• (Uncountable nouns: liquids, powders…)
Attention!
Do not write a/an before an uncountable noun

-do not say: There is a meat for breakfast.


-do not say: There is a rice.

• Use a/an for singular countable nouns in affirmative,


negative and interrogative sentences:

 Is there a tomato? Yes, there is./ no, there isn’t.

• Use some for plural countable nouns and uncountable


nouns in affirmative sentences.
