What is a
Computer?
A computer is a machine or
device that performs processes,
calculations and operations
based on instructions provided by
a software or hardware program.
It has the ability to accept data
(input), process it, and then
produce outputs.

Motherboard – backbone of the computer
where all parts are attached.
Motherboard Form Factor
• the motherboard form factor indicates the shape and size
specifications of the board. The form factor also determines
additional parameters such as the casing, power supply, mounting
holes, and overall physical layout.
ATX (Advanced Technology
Extended)
• ATX motherboard dimensions are 12 × 13 in. A variation of
the ATX is the Mini ATX, which is essentially a reduced-size
version of ATX but more reduced in terms of its shape, its
measurements are 11.2 × 8.2 inches.
ATX
(Advanced
Technology
Extended)
Micro-ATX (Advanced Technology
Extended)
• It is an evolution of ATX. Its measures are 9.6 ×
9.6 inches. The Micro-ATX supports up to four
expansion slots that can combine freely with ISA,
PCI, PCI / ISA shared, and AGP. Mounting holes
changed from the Standard ATX, since the
measurements are different, but they are also
compatible with most ATX cabinets.
Micro-ATX
(Advanced
Technology
Extended)
Mini-ITX (Information Technology
Extended)
• Mini ITX is a low-power consumption
motherboard format of 6.7 × 6.7 inches. Its
dimensions are the most characteristic factor of
this type of form factor. Although this type of
motherboard was designed with the aim of
empowering teams of low consumption, at
present there are no limits and they have grown
by giant steps in terms of benefits.
Mini-ITX
(Information
Technology
Extended)
Nano-ITX
(Information Technology Extended)
• The Nano-ITX is another type of motherboard
form factor, that measures 4.7 × 4.7 in. Nano-ITX
are fully integrated boards designed to consume
very low power. This type of motherboard can be
used in many applications, but it was specially
designed for smart entertainment, like PVRs,
media centers, smart TVs, in-vehicle devices, and
more.
Nano-ITX
(Information
Technology
Extended)
Pico-ITX
(Information Technology Extended)
• The Pico-ITX is the smallest type of motherboard
form factor in this list. Its measurements are 3.9
× 2.8 in and it is 75% smaller than the Mini-ITX.
This motherboard was designed and developed
by VIA, to open up innovation for smaller and
smarter IoT devices.

Power Supply – AC to DC converter that
gives electricity/power to the System unit.
Hard Disk Drive - used to store data
permanently. Made of magnetic disk inside.
Solid State Drive - used to store data permanently.
Boot up faster than Hard Disk Drive
SATA Cable – used to connect HDD or SDD
to the motherboard.
Video Card or Graphics card -allows the computer to send
graphical information to a video display device such as
a monitor, TV, or projector.
Sound card – used in producing sound on a computer
that can be heard through speakers or headphones.
LAN Card - connect to the network via an
Ethernet cable, usb, or wirelessly.
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT
AND MATERIALS
Screw Driver - manual or powered, used for
turning screws.
Anti Static Wrist strap - helps to prevent the build
up of static electricity near sensitive electronics
Gloves - garment covering the hand. Gloves usually have
separate sheaths or openings for each finger and the thumb.
Pliers - used to hold objects firmly.
Twizzers - a small instrument like a pair of pincers
for plucking out hairs and picking up small objects.
Allen Wrenches - L-shaped metal bar with a hexagonal head at
each end, used to turn bolts and screws having hexagonal sockets.
Bootable Device – USB/PENDRIVE where
in Operating system are stored.
Crimping Tool - used to join or connect two pieces of
material by using compression to form a connecting bond.
UTP Cable - 100 ohm copper cable that consists of 2 to 1800
unshielded twisted pairs surrounded by an outer jacket.
RJ-45 - 8-pin/8-position plug or jack is commonly used to connect
computers onto Ethernet-based local area networks (LAN).
LAN Tester - can determin. e IP addresses, identify
polarity, connected port and link connectivity.
PATCH Panel - mounted hardware assembly that
contains ports that are used to connect and manage
incoming and outgoing LAN
Switch - creates networks and uses multiple ports
to communicate between devices in the LAN.
Router - device that connects two or more
packet-switched networks or subnetworks.

• Ground or discharge yourself when working with your computer.
• Do not to use excessive force when handling a computer.
• Clean the area where you will be working, before and after using
it.
Things we need to do before performing
Computer Installation and Maintenance.
• Hold all the components on the edges of your table.
• Always bring personal protective equipment (PPE) with you.
• Make sure that the pins are correctly aligned in their places.
• Make a contingency measures if any mishaps happen in your
