History of Basketball

Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a court, with the objective being to shoot a ball through a hoop mounted high on a backboard. The sport was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith, who created the game to keep his gym class active on a rainy day. Key aspects of the early game included passing the ball rather than dribbling and using a peach basket as the hoop. The Philippines was an early adopter of basketball and a competitive team internationally in the early 20th century.
