INTRODUCTION
Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's
sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on 3 sides.
You can enjoy several beaches here. Most are
small and some only exist at low tide. The main
beach is around 200 metres long with silky soft
white sand. The whole bay is one big reef and
the underwater scene features colourful coral
and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water.

Before it’s closure an estimate was given that Maya Bay might see up

2.5 million visitors in the year of 2018. Studies from marine biologists

Before Maya Bay was shut for the first time due to ecological
recovery, hordes of tourists visited via boat. Visiting by speedboat was
one of the most common ways, followed by a long tail boat ride.

Maya Bay is an exceptional place for various
water activities such as snorkeling, diving, and
kayaking.
Snorkeling and diving are one of the best activities in
Maya Bay during day time. Kayaking tour boats come into
the bay while letting tourists explore. There are also
several other pleasurable activities to enjoy in Maya Bay.
This includes a viking cave, eating, and exploring the
lagoon. Sunset cruises, beach parties, and cave tours are

Maya Bay became a top attraction on Phi Phi after The Beach (1999) was shot
here. It was always very popular before the film but ever since the film came out,
people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of
Maya Bay.
Thousands of people visited the beach each day since it gained popularity. The
bad news is, many boats ferried visitors in and out and on any given day at any
time, there would've been 30-plus speedboats and longtail boats on the beach,
with large ferries carrying hundreds of snorkelers and sightseers moored in
deeper water.

The temporary closure of Maya Bay located at Phi Phi Le
Island in Thailand’s Krabi province was an executive
decision made to overcome problems of “over-tourism”
and degradation of the marine ecosystems.

THE TRANSPORTATIONS
From Phi Phi Don you can rent a longtail for 3 hours or for a full day, with a
maximum of 4 passengers. Speedboats are also available for half-day and full-
day rents and usually allow for a maximum of 6. There are also many different
kinds of boat tours that include Maya Bay in their itineraries. Various kinds of
boats are used, such as longtails, speedboats and ferry boats. From Phuket
and Krabi, tours depart daily, mainly by speedboat.
And they have a small shack a little back from the beach sells drinks and
snacks. that create income to develop the cites and to preserve the beauty of
it.

Due to the consequences of the massive flood of tourists, the Thai government declared in June
2018 that one of its top tourist spots, Maya Bay, would be closed for four (4) months. Maya Bay's
shutdown was meant to assist the destination recover from the impacts of overpopulation.
According to reports, the bay is "littered with rubbish," and people continue to come to the region
on overloaded snorkel boats.” A lot of people visiting the place is not responsible on the rules and
regulation of the maya bay.
From June to October, the structure of Maya Bay must recover for an extended period of time
in order to complete the ecology and physical. As revealed, the beach forest is destroyed, and tree
roots are exposed due to overcrowding, and the coral reefs are affected. This is the most prevalent
issue or worry at the beach. According to the DNP, the coral reef flats in particular portions of the
bay have degenerated and been severely harmed

They have task to recovery of the bay was coral propagation where branches of broken corals are
attached to rocks so that they can grow on them. It is expected that 2,000 coral tips will grow in Maya’s
waters. DNP also intends to study the recovery of the bay’s ecosystems and how it will be able to handle
the impacts of tourism. They additionally plan to modify the bay's management framework by hiring
universities to investigate the number of tourists and boats that the bay can accept, which is estimated to
be 2,000 people and 100 boats every day. Access to the bay will be transferred to the island's backside,
and visitor numbers and transport vessels will be limited based on the study's findings about the water's
capability.
Some object to the proposed closure because it will harm the livelihood opportunities of residents
who rely on the 4,000 visitors that visit each day. They also claimed that the extended closure would have
an impact on tourists who had already made reservations prior to the announcement of the bay's
restoration.
