• Basketball a game with a ball thrown by hand into a ring with a net (basket) attached to a shield 3 meters
5 centimeters (10 feet) above the court. Basketball is an Olympic sport.

• Two teams of 5 people play on a court of 28x15 m. On the short sides of the court, "baskets" are fixed on
shields at a height of 305 cm - metal rings with a diameter of 45 cm with a rope net without a bottom. The
winner is the team that managed to throw the ball into the opponent's "basket" more times. The length of
the game is four 10-minute periods, with two-minute breaks between the first and second and third and
fourth quarters, and a long 15-minute break between the second and third periods. In the National
Basketball Association, the game lasts 48 minutes and is divided into 4 quarters.

• The first men's world championship was held in 1950, and the women's in 1953. Nowadays, the world
championships are held every four years. The most prestigious competitions among national teams are the
Olympic Games, the World Basketball Championship, and among club teams the NBA Championship,
and in Europe the ULEB EuroLeague, EuroCup and FIBA Challenge Cup.

• Researchers of antiquity noticed long ago that humanity,


in different parts of the world and at different times, used
games and fun with rounded objects. If for children it was
almost the only entertainment, then for adults it turned
into a certain symbolic ritual. And only from the
beginning of the 20th century, human civilization began to
use games as entertainment to improve their body and
their physical form, and then it turned into sports
competitions, both at the amateur and professional level.
