PSP Analysis Steps

The PSP analysis of well J58-90B identified 7 producing intervals, calculated their individual flow rates, and found an overall production of 5,671 BFPD and 6% water cut. The analysis verified the well was producing as expected as a new well. No further actions were recommended at this time.

PSP Analysis steps

March 2013
Introduction

Production logging:
Qualitative and quantitative contribution measurement of each producing
interval in a well
Objective:
• Zonal contribution
• Cross flow detection
• Cross flow behind the casing
• Rate measurement (Test)
• Determining water production through casing leak and channel leak
• Determining free gas production
• Evaluating completion efficiency
• Providing guidance for workovers and enhanced recovery methods
Tools

Single phase flow:

− Flowmeter (to calculate the flow rate)

− Thermometer (to calculate fluid entries)
− Pressure gauge (to evaluate well’s performance)

Multiphase flow:

− Fluid density
Analysis Step 1 (Example J58-90B)

• From the shut in pass, pick a point where the cable speed is stable and RPS is
stable with no noise.

Example at depth 111040

• Now, at this depth read from the LAS file the exact cable speeds and RPS and
record it in the following table
SHUT-IN PASSES

Down CAPLE SPEED, Ft/Min 30.56 60.54 89.75 120

RPS 1.43 3.2241 5 6.66
Analysis Step 2 (Example J58-90B)

• Draw the response line:

− Water density
− Oil density
− Bw and Bo
− Pwf and BHFT
− Casing ID
• Most of the needed data can be acquired from the PVT of the well or form an offset
well

• Conclusions:
Now, looking at the data calculated and the history of the well, verify
that the results are correct and then recommend further action.
In this case, the well 90B was just drilled, producing 5700 BFPD with
traces WC.
