INTRODUCTION

PRAYER IS ONE OF THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM . OFFERING OF THE FIVE DAILY PRAYERS AT THEIR PRESCRIBED TIME
IS AN OBLIGATORY RELIGIOUS DUTY ON EVERY MUSLIM WHETHER MALE OR FEMALE , FREE OR BONDED , HEALTHY
OR SICK .
NAMES OF PRAYERS

• THERE ARE FIVE TYPES OF PRAYER:


• FAJR
• ZOHR
• ASR
• MAGRIB
• ISHA
TIMES OF PRAYERS

FAJR:
Fajr Prayer is to be performed anytime starting from the moment of dawn, but not after sunrise. As an Islamic day it starts at sunset.
ZUHR:
Zuhr prayer is amongst the five obligatory salah . It is the second prayer offered to God at the noon hour of the morning. It is done after the sun
descends towards the west from the middle of the sky.

Asr:
Asr Prayer starts at afternoon and it is the third prayer.

MAGHRIB:
Maghrib prayer starts after sunset and it is the fourth prayer.
ISHA:
Isha continued from midnight and it is the fifth prayer.
Sunnah Muakkadah and Sunnah Ghair Muakkadah

• The sunnah are divided into:


• 1. Sunnah Muakkadah
• 2. Sunnah Ghair Muakkadah.
Sunnah Muakkadah means an act that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, always used to do. These rakats must be
offered. (However if missed, there is no makeup or qada for it). Sunnah Ghair Muakkadah are sunnahs that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-
Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to leave sometimes without any reason. These are not obligatory.
