Seminar Presentation

- The document summarizes a seminar on using plastic as a soil stabilizer. - Plastic was chosen as a stabilizer because it is readily available, can increase shear strength and tensile strength of soils, and enhance properties for road construction. - Tests were conducted to determine properties of a soil sample including specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit, and unconfined compressive strength with different percentages of added plastic fibers. The UCS increased with higher percentages of plastic reinforcement.

OVER VIEW
• Introduction.
• Types of stabilizers.
• Why plastic?
• Properties of plastic.
• Objectives.
• Results and discussion.
• Conclusion
Introduction:
• Soil stabilization means the improvement of
stabilization or bearing capacity of soil by the use
of controlled compaction, proportioning and/or
the addition of suitable admixture or stabilisers.
• Stabilization is the process of blending and
mixing materials with a soil to improve certain
properties of the soil. Stabilization can be done
with, cement, lime, bitumen, flyash.
• Here we are usimg plastic as soil stabilizer.
Types of Stabilizers:
• Plastic
• Fly Ash
• Pond ash
• Bitumen
• Lime
Why plastic?
• Increased shear strength.
• Tensile strength
• It can significantly enhance the properties of
the soil used in the construction of road
infrastructure.
• Available in abundance
Properties Of Plastic.
• Plastic have a numerous properties that make
them superior to other materials in many
application
• The different types of properties are physical
properties, chemical properties
Physical properties:
• Transparency
• Flexibility
• Elasticity
• Water resistant
Chemical properties:
• Chemical resistance.
• Thermal resistance
• Flammability
• Heat of combustion
Objectives:
• The objectives of this study is to improve the
characteristics at site and make soil capable of
carrying load and to increase the shear strength
by decrease the compressibility of the soil.
• To check the durability of sample of cubes by
testing through universal testing machine
TEST’S CONDUCTED
• SPECIFIC GRAVITY:

The average specific gravity of soil is 2.33

• SIEVE ANALYSIS:
• LIQUID LIMIT TEST

• Average liquid limit =27.4%

• PLASTIC LIMIT:

• AVERAGE PLASTIC LIMIT=25.13%
