THE GREAT DEPRESSION

The masses were hungry, people lost their jobs. Farmers could not pay their debts and lost their farms.

October 24, 1929 Black Thursday, one out every four workers was unemployed.

THE GREAT DEPRESSION ROOSVELTS NEW DEAL

From Depression times when the droughts that led to the dust bowl caused people to abandon their worthless farms in Oklahoma and Texas and take to the road to seek jobs elsewhere.

THE WORLD WAR II THE WAR BEGINS

Germany invades Poland, war in Europe begins.

The United States remained neutral. The United States gave the British 50 overage destroyers in return for naval bases in the western Atlantic.

PEARL HARBOR AMERICA IN WAR

American military planners expected a Japannese attack in East indies (Indonesia).

USS Arizona burned for two days after being hit. The wreck remains at bottom of Pearl Harbor

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan...As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense...With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God." THE END OF THE WAR THE ATOMIC BOMB

President Harry Truman ordered the use of the atomic bomb against Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). Nearly 200.000 civilians died in the nuclear attacks. In Japan, August 14 is considered to be the day that the Pacific war ended. However, as imperial Japan actually surrendered on August 15, this day became known in the English-speaking countries as V-J Day

A group of Islamist students and militants took over the American embassy in support of the Iranian revolution.

There were many failed attempts to release the hostages as the famous Operation Eagle Claw

Finally, the hostages were released just minutes after the American president Ronald Reagan was sworn in.

REAGAN ERA REAGANOMICS AND THE ECONOMY

The economy of Reagan was based on:

1. Reduce the growth of goverment spending 2. Reduce marginal tax rates on income 3. Reduce regulation 4. Control the money supply to reduce inflation

REAGAN ERA IRAN-CONTRA AFFAIR

It was a political scandal in USA on november, 1986. American figues agreed to facilitate the sale of weapons to Iran. The scandal was compunded when Oliver North and John Poindexter were indicated on multiple charges on march 16, 1988.

THE END OF COLD WAR


It was when George H.W Bush and Gorbachev met to declare the Cold War over at the Malta Summit on December 3, 1989.

Finally the USSR was ruptured and of this way was the end of the Communism.
