Matter: Aishi Gupta 9 - A

This document contains a set of multiple choice and short answer questions about matter. It begins with an introduction stating that the questions are basic facts about matter. It then asks 13 questions about topics like who discovered the concept of matter, definitions of states of matter, atomic structure, properties of gases, and dark matter. The questions are followed by short answers providing explanations and identifying the correct multiple choice option when applicable.

Matter

A I S H I G U P TA

9-A
Intro for some dumb people
K so I know there are some genius people in our class that can very
well answer the questions I have written in this ppt
These are some basic facts I found about matter ;)

P.S.
I hope our class gets atleast some of them..
And I don’t need very over smart suggestions
No thanks ;) keep it to yourself
K so
Q1
Do you know who found out
about matter?
Ans-
It was the Greek philosopher, Empedocles, in
about 400 BC, who is credited with giving
things different classifications. His
classifications were earth, air, water and fire.
After that, another Greek philosopher,
Democritus, discovered that if you keep
cutting matter into smaller and smaller
pieces, you eventually get something you
cannot cut into anymore and that is the birth
of the atom .
Q2
How can we
correctly define
all matter in the
universe?
Ans-
Anything that has mass
and volume (takes up
space).
When water freezes, it
forms a lattice pattern
and_______
a)expands
b)sinks
c)evaporates
d)melts
Ans-

a)Expands
Q3

The process by which a solid changes its

state to a gas is______________

If u guys get it wrong I am calling Vandana Ma’am

Ans-
Sublimation
Q4
The process by which a gas changes its
state to a liquid is __________

           .
If u guys get it wrong I am calling Vandana Ma’am
Ans-
Condensation
Q5
The process by which a
liquid changes its state to
a gas is____________

If u guys get it wrong I am calling Vandana Ma’am
Ans-
Evaporation
These were easy!!
This one might be
tricky. ;)
Q6 How many
electrons would it
take to equal the
mass of a single
proton or neutron?
Imma give u some options to
help
a)less than one, electrons are
bigger than either
b)1,836 electrons
c)565 electrons
d)36 electrons
Ans-
B)1836 electrons
The electron actually weighs
9.11x10^-28 grams. This means it
would take about 1,830 electrons
to equal the mass of one proton.
Q7
What is the
strength of force
among particles
in a gas?
In a gas, particles are in continual straight-
line motion. The kinetic energy of the
molecule is greater than the attractive force
between them, thus they are much farther
apart and move freely of each other. In most
cases, there are essentially no attractive
forces between particles.
Q8
What does it
mean when an
element is in its
excited state?
Ans-
This is the energy state that would
be considered normal for the atom.
An excited state is an energy level
of an atom, ion, or molecule in
which an electron is at a higher
energy level than its ground state.
An electron is normally in its
ground state, the lowest energy
state available.
What’s a ground
state?(Its not a
question people its
explanation)
• the state of a physical system (as of an
atomic nucleus or an atom) having the
least energy of all the possible states

A photon is an elementary particle that is a quantum of the

electromagnetic field, including electromagnetic radiation such
as light and radio waves, and the force carrier for the
electromagnetic force. Photons are massless, so they always
move at the speed of light in vacuum
Q 9Elements can be
broken down into
other substances by
heat, light, or
electricity.

True/False
Ans-
False
Q10
What is Dark
Matter?
Ans-
Dark matter is made up of particles
that do not absorb, reflect, or emit
light, making them invisible to
electromagnetic radiation. Dark matter
is stuff that cannot be seen with the
naked eye.
Q11 how many atoms
are there in a single
grain of sand?
A)60 million
b)60
c)60 million trillion
d)60 trillion
Ans –
C) Atoms are so small that there ar
about 60 million trillion atoms in 1
grain of sand
Q12
When a junk car is
crushed into a
compact cube, does
its mass change? Its
volume and
weight?
Q13
What state
of matter is
a bubble?
Ans-
the gas inside the
bubble is air and the
liquid that forms the
bubble is a mixture
of water and soap.
I know this seems short,
but it took me a while
to make it 
